Dynamics of Quantum Entanglement in Reservoir with Memory Effects

Abstract

The non-Markovian dynamics of quantum entanglement is studied by the Shabani—Lidar master equation when one of entangled quantum systems is coupled to a local reservoir with memory effects. The completely positive reduced dynamical map can be constructed in the Kraus representation. Quantum entanglement decays more slowly in the non-Markovian environment. The decoherence time for quantum entanglement can be markedly increased with the change of the memory kernel. It is found out that the entanglement sudden death between quantum systems and entanglement sudden birth between the system and reservoir occur at different instants.

Non-Markovian environments and entanglement preservation

Jackson Tan, Thi Ha Kyaw, Ye Yeo

Using the Shabani-Lidar post-Markovian master equation, we derive non-Markovian generalizations of important quantum decohering operations on single qubits. When environmental memory effects are being taken into account, both single-qubit coherence and two-qubit entanglement may be preserved over a longer period of time, in contrast to the corresponding situations where these are totally neglected. We argue that recognizing the fact that every environment is inherently non-Markovian could be the key to the resolution of the issue of entanglement sudden death.

Non-Markovian dynamics of a qubit

Sabrina Maniscalco, Francesco Petruccione

In this paper we investigate the non-Markovian dynamics of a qubit by comparing two generalized master equations with memory. In the case of a thermal bath, we derive the solution of the recently proposed post-Markovian master equation [A. Shabani and D. A. Lidar, Phys. Rev. A 71, 020101(R) (2005)] and we study the dynamics for an exponentially decaying memory kernel. We compare the solution of the post-Markovian master equation with the solution of the typical memory kernel master equation. Our results lead to a new physical interpretation of the reservoir correlation function and bring to light the limits of usability of master equations with memory for the system under consideration.

Entanglement for Two-Qubit Extended Werner-Like States: Effect of Non-Markovian Environments

Shan Chuan-Jia, Ji-Bing Liu, Tao Chen +4 more

We investigate the sudden birth and sudden death of entanglement of two qubits interacting with un-correlated structured reservoirs. The system is initially prepared in two-qubit extended Werner-like state. We work out the dependence of the entanglement dynamics on both non-Markovian environments and the purity of initial state, and show that non-Markovian environments and the purity can control the time of the two-qubit entanglement sudden death and the reservoirs' entanglement sudden birth. Furthermore, under the conditions of different purity and initial entanglement, the revival of qubits' entanglement can manifest before, simultaneously or even after the disentanglement of their corresponding reservoirs.

Sudden death and sudden birth of entanglement in common structured reservoirs

L. Mazzola, Sabrina Maniscalco, Jyrki Piilo +2 more

We study the exact entanglement dynamics of two qubits in a common structured reservoir. We demonstrate that for certain classes of entangled states, entanglement sudden death occurs, while for certain initially factorized states, entanglement sudden birth takes place. The backaction of the non-Markovian reservoir is responsible for revivals of entanglement after sudden death has occurred, and also for periods of disentanglement following entanglement sudden birth.

Sudden change of genuine multipartite entanglement in non-Markovian dynamics

Mazhar Ali

We investigate entanglement dynamics of bipartite as well multipartite systems beyond Markov approximation. We study two pairs of cavity–reservoir systems, modeled as four qubits and track the change of entanglement among cavity–cavity qubits, reservoir–reservoir qubits, and also for genuine entanglement of all four qubits. For cavity–cavity qubits, we find that non-Markovianity prolongs the life of entanglement besides collapse/revival phenomenon. For reservoir–reservoir qubits, entanglement sudden birth is delayed accordingly along with oscillations. For all four qubits, with a specific initial state, we find that genuine entanglement develops gradually, reaches to a maximum constant value and then freezes at this value for some time before decaying. This sudden change in dynamics of genuine entanglement occurs for a time window where neither cavities nor reservoirs are entangled. In contrast to Markov process, sudden change phenomenon may be recurrent in non-Markovian regime.

Non-Markovian thermalization of entangled qubits

I. Glendinning, Matthias Jakob, Michael Noelle

We study the decoherence properties of an entangled bipartite qubit system, represented by two two-level atoms that are individually coupled to non-Markovian reservoirs. This coupling ensures that the dynamical equations of the atoms can be treated independently. The non-Markovian reservoirs are described by a model which leads to an exact non-Markovian master equation of the Nakajima-Zwanzig form [J. Salo, S. M. Barnett, and S. Stenholm, Optics Commun. 259, 772 (2006)]. We consider the evolution of the entanglement of a two-atom state that is initially completely entangled, quantified by its concurrence. Collapses and revivals in the concurrence, induced by the memory effects of the reservoir, govern the dynamics of the entangled quantum system. These collapses and revivals in the concurrence are a strong manifestation of the non-Markovian reservoir.
