Classical and quantum quasi-free position-dependent mass: Pöschl–Teller and ordering ambiguity

Abstract

We argue that the classical and quantum mechanical correspondence may play a basic role in the fixation of the ordering ambiguity parameters. We use quasi-free position-dependent masses in the classical and quantum frameworks. The effective Pöschl–Teller model is used as a manifested reference potential to elaborate on the reliability of the ordering ambiguity parameters available in the literature.

Comment on the "Classical and quantum position-dependent mass harmonic oscillators" and ordering-ambiguity resolution

Omar Mustafa

We recycle Cruz et al.'s (Phys. Lett. A 369 (2007) 400) work on the classical and quantum position-dependent mass (PDM) oscillators. To elaborate on the ordering ambiguity, we properly amend some of the results reported in their work and discuss the classical and quantum mechanical correspondence for the PDM harmonic oscillators. We use a point canonical transformation and show that one unique quantum PDM oscillator Hamiltonian (consequently, one unique ordering-ambiguity parametric set j=l=-1/4 and k=-1/2) is obtained. To show that such a parametric set is not just a manifestation of the quantum PDM oscillator Hamiltonian, we consider the classical and quantum mechanical correspondence for quasi-free PDM particles moving under the influence of their own PDM force fields.

On the role of quantum superpotentials in the position dependent mass Schrödinger equation

Gerardo Ovando, José Juan Peña, J. Morales +1 more

The von Roos’ position dependent mass Schrödinger Equation (PDMSE) is given in terms of an effective potential, which is constructed by the potential under study and additional terms involving the position dependent mass and the ambiguity ordering parameters. At this regard, some of the most important approaches to the ambiguity parameters are those of BenDaniel-Duke, Gora-Williams, Zhu-Kroemer, Li-Kuhn and so on. In this work we show that for the cases of Zhu-Kroemer and BenDaniel-Duke it is possible to express any solvable potential through a couple of quantum superpotentials. For this, we stablish the factorization of the PDMSE Hamiltonian and the use of a point canonical transformation; these allow to identify a first superpotential W(x). Next, the term in the effective potential with ambiguity parameters is expressed through a function Z(x) and later the cases when Z(x) is a quantum superpotential are discussed. This way, the proposed superpotentials determine the solvable potentials in the PDMSE, the energy spectra and mass functions. We give some examples to explain the approach which can be straightforwardly applied to the solution of the PDMSE for other different potential models and mass distributions.

Effective Schrödinger equation with general ordering ambiguity position-dependent mass Morse potential

Sameer M. Ikhdair

We solve the parametric generalized effective Schrödinger equation with a specific choice of position-dependent mass function and Morse oscillator potential by means of the Nikiforov–Uvarov method combined with the Pekeris approximation scheme. All bound-state energies are found explicitly and all corresponding radial wave functions are built analytically. We choose the Weyl or Li and Kuhn ordering for the ambiguity parameters in our numerical work to calculate the energy spectrum for a few (H2, LiH, HCl and CO) diatomic molecules with arbitrary vibration n and rotation l quantum numbers and different position-dependent mass functions. Two special cases including the constant mass and the vibration s-wave (l = 0) are also investigated.

Pseudo-Hermitian versus Hermitian position-dependent-mass Hamiltonians in a perturbative framework

Bijan Kumar Bagchi, C. Quesne, Rajkumar Roychoudhury

We formulate a systematic algorithm for constructing a whole class of Hermitian position-dependent-mass Hamiltonians which, to lowest order of perturbation theory, allow a description in terms of -symmetric Hamiltonians. The method is applied to the Hermitian analogue of the -symmetric cubic anharmonic oscillator. A new example is provided by a Hamiltonian (approximately) equivalent to a -symmetric extension of the one-parameter trigonometric Pöschl–Teller potential.
