Tensor network and a black hole

Abstract

A tensor-network variational formalism of thermofield dynamics is introduced. The formalism relates the original Hilbert space with its tilde space by a product of two copies of a tensor network. Then, their interface becomes an event horizon, and the logarithm of the tensor rank corresponds to the black hole entropy. Eventually, a multiscale entanglement renormalization ansatz reproduces an anti--de Sitter black hole at finite temperature. Our finding shows rich functionalities of multiscale entanglement renormalization ansatz as efficient graphical representation of AdS/CFT correspondence.

String in AdS black hole: A thermo field dynamic approach

M. Botta Cantcheff, A. L. Gadelha, Dáfni F. Z. Marchioro +1 more

Based on Maldacena's description of an eternal anti--de Sitter (AdS) black hole, we reassess the thermo field dynamics (TFD) formalism in the context of the AdS/CFT correspondence. The model studied here involves the maximally extended AdS-Schwarschild solution and two (noninteracting) copies of the conformal field theory (CFT) associated to the global AdS spacetime, along with an extension of the string by imposing natural gluing conditions in the horizon. We show that the gluing conditions in the horizon define a string boundary state which is identified with the TFD thermal vacuum, globally defined in the Kruskal extension of the AdS black hole. We emphasize the connection of this picture with unitary $SU(1,1)$ TFD formulation, and we show that information about the bulk and the conformal boundary is present in the $SU(1,1)$ parameters. Using the unitary $SU(1,1)$ TFD formulation, a canonical prescription for calculating the world sheet real time thermal Green's function is made, and the entropy associated with the entanglement of the two CFT's is calculated.

Entanglement entropy of two-dimensional anti-de Sitter black holes

Mariano Cadoni

Using the AdS/CFT correspondence we derive a formula for the entanglement entropy of the anti-de Sitter black hole in two spacetime dimensions. The leading term in the large black hole mass expansion of our formula reproduces exactly the Bekenstein–Hawking entropy SBH, whereas the subleading term behaves as lnSBH. This subleading term has the universal form typical for the entanglement entropy of physical systems described by effective conformal fields theories (e.g. one-dimensional statistical models at the critical point). The well-known form of the entanglement entropy for a two-dimensional conformal field theory is obtained as analytic continuation of our result and is related with the entanglement entropy of a black hole with negative mass.

Entanglement Entropy of Black Holes and Anti–de Sitter Space/Conformal-Field-Theory Correspondence

Sergey N. Solodukhin

A recent proposal by Ryu and Takayanagi for a holographic interpretation of entanglement entropy in conformal field theories dual to supergravity on anti-de Sitter space is generalized to include entanglement entropy of black holes living on the boundary of anti-de Sitter space. The generalized proposal is verified in boundary dimensions d=2 and d=4 for both the uv-divergent and uv-finite terms. In dimension d=4 an expansion of entanglement entropy in terms of size L of the subsystem outside the black hole is considered. A new term in the entropy of dual strongly coupled conformal-field theory, which universally grows as L(2)lnL and is proportional to the value of the obstruction tensor at the black hole horizon, is predicted.

Hyperinvariant Tensor Networks and Holography

Glen Evenbly

We propose a new class of tensor network state as a model for the AdS/CFT correspondence and holography. This class is demonstrated to retain key features of the multiscale entanglement renormalization ansatz (MERA), in that they describe quantum states with algebraic correlation functions, have free variational parameters, and are efficiently contractible. Yet, unlike the MERA, they are built according to a uniform tiling of hyperbolic space, without inherent directionality or preferred locations in the holographic bulk, and thus circumvent key arguments made against the MERA as a model for AdS/CFT. Novel holographic features of this tensor network class are examined, such as an equivalence between the causal cones C(R) and the entanglement wedges E(R) of connected boundary regions R.

Quantum Multiscale Entanglement Renormalization Ansatz Channels

Vittorio Giovannetti, Simone Montangero, Rosario Fazio

Tensor network representations of many-body quantum systems can be described in terms of quantum channels. We focus on channels associated with the multiscale entanglement renormalization ansatz tensor network that has been recently introduced to efficiently describe critical systems. Our approach allows us to compute the multiscale entanglement renormalization ansatz correspondent to the thermodynamical limit of a critical system introducing a transfer matrix formalism, and to relate the system critical exponents to the convergence rates of the associated channels.

Tensor Network Renormalization Yields the Multiscale Entanglement Renormalization Ansatz

Glen Evenbly, Guifré Vidal

We show how to build a multiscale entanglement renormalization ansatz (MERA) representation of the ground state of a many-body Hamiltonian H by applying the recently proposed tensor network renormalization [G. Evenbly and G. Vidal, Phys. Rev. Lett. 115, 180405 (2015)] to the Euclidean time evolution operator e(-βH) for infinite β. This approach bypasses the costly energy minimization of previous MERA algorithms and, when applied to finite inverse temperature β, produces a MERA representation of a thermal Gibbs state. Our construction endows tensor network renormalization with a renormalization group flow in the space of wave functions and Hamiltonians (and not merely in the more abstract space of tensors) and extends the MERA formalism to classical statistical systems.
