An Improvement in Quantum Fourier Transform

Abstract

Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) is one of the most useful techniques for analyzing data in linear algebra. SVD decomposes a rectangular real or complex matrix into two orthogonal matrices and one diagonal matrix. In this work we introduce a new approach to improve the preciseness of the standard Quantum Fourier Transform. The presented Quantum-SVD algorithm is based on the singular value decomposition mechanism. While the complexity of the proposed scheme is the same as the standard Quantum Fourier Transform, the precision of the Quantum-SVD approach is some orders higher. The Quantum-SVD approach also exploits the benefits of quantum searching.

QUANTUM SINGULAR VALUE DECOMPOSITION BASED APPROXIMATION ALGORITHM

László Gyöngyösi, Sándor Imre

Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) is one of the most useful techniques for analyzing data in linear algebra. SVD decomposes a rectangular real or complex matrix into two orthogonal matrices and one diagonal matrix. The proposed Quantum-SVD algorithm interpolates the non-uniform angles in the Fourier domain. The error of the Quantum-SVD approach is some orders lower than the error given by ordinary Quantum Fourier Transformation. Our Quantum-SVD algorithm is a fundamentally novel approach for the computation of the Quantum Fourier Transformation (QFT) of non-uniform states. The presented Quantum-SVD algorithm is based on the singular value decomposition mechanism, and the computation of Quantum Fourier Transformation of non-uniform angles of a quantum system. The Quantum-SVD approach provides advantages in terms of computational structure, being based on QFT and multiplications.

Quantum tensor singular value decomposition*

Xiaoqiang Wang, Lejia Gu, Heung-wing Lee +1 more

Abstract Tensors are increasingly ubiquitous in various areas of applied mathematics and computing, and tensor decompositions are of practical significance and benefit many applications in data completion, image processing, computer vision, collaborative filtering, etc. Recently, Kilmer and Martin propose a new tensor factorization strategy, tensor singular value decomposition (t-svd), which extends the matrix singular value decomposition to tensors. However, computing t-svd for high dimensional tensors costs much computation and thus cannot efficiently handle large scale datasets. Motivated by advantage of quantum computation, in this paper, we present a quantum algorithm of t-svd for third-order tensors and then extend it to order-p tensors. We prove that our quantum t-svd algorithm for a third-order N dimensional tensor runs in time  N polylog ( N ) if we do not recover classical information from the quantum output state. Moreover, we apply our quantum t-svd algorithm to context-aware multidimensional recommendation systems, where we just need to extract partial classical information from the quantum output state, thus achieving low time complexity.

Quantum Higher Order Singular Value Decomposition

Lejia Gu, Xiaoqiang Wang, Guofeng Zhang

Higher order singular value decomposition (HOSVD) is an important tool for analyzing big data in multilinear algebra and machine learning. In this paper, we present a quantum algorithm for higher order singular value decomposition. Our method allows one to decompose a tensor into a core tensor containing tensor singular values and some unitary matrices by quantum computers. Compared to the classical HOSVD algorithm, our quantum algorithm provides an exponential speedup.

Quantum-probabilistic SVD: complex-valued factorization of matrix data

S. Kozhisseri, Илья Алексеевич Суров

The paper reports a method for compressed representation of matrix data on the principles of quantum theory. The method is formalized as complex-valued matrix factorization based on standard singular value decomposition. The developed approach establishes a bridge between standard methods of semantic data analysis and quantum models of cognition and decision. According to the quantum theory, real-valued observable quantities are generated by wavefunctions being complex-valued vectors in multidimensional Hilbert-space. Wavefunctions are defined as superpositions of basis vectors encoding composition of semantic factors. Basis vectors are found by singular value decomposition of the initial data matrix transformed to a real-valued amplitude form. Phase-dependent superposition amplitudes are found to optimize approximation of the source data. The resulting model represents the observed real-valued data as generated from a small number of basis wavefunctions superposed with complex-valued coefficients. The method is tested for random matrices of sizes from 3 × 3 to 12 × 12 and dimensionality of latent Hilbert-space from 2 to 4. The best approximation is achieved by encoding latent factors in normalized complex-valued amplitude vectors interpreted as wavefunctions generating the data. In terms of approximation fitness, the developed method surpasses standard truncated SVD of the same dimensionality. The mean advantage over the considered range of parameters is 22 %. The method permits cognitive interpretation in accord with the existing quantum models of cognition and decision. The method can be integrated in the algorithms of semantic data analysis including natural language processing. In these tasks, the obtained improvement of approximation translates to the increased precision of similarity measures, principal component analysis, advantage in classification, and document ranking methods. Integration with quantum models of cognition and decision is expected to boost methods of artificial intelligence and machine learning improving imitation of natural thinking.

Quantum Variational Singular Value Decomposition: A new hybrid approach towards quantum image compression

Britant, Abhishek Sunil Tiwari

This research paper explores the application of singular value decomposition (SVD) in quantum image processing (QIP), specifically focusing on the computation of eigenvalues using variational quantum algorithms. SVD is a powerful mathematical tool in image processing, used for tasks such as image compression, noise reduction, and feature extraction. In this study, we propose quantum variational singular value decomposition (QVSVD) based on the variational quantum deflation (VQD) algorithm to determine the eigenvalues that contributes in calculating the singular values of the image matrix and eventually doing the SVD. This facilitates the extraction of eigenvalues with exponential speedup on real hardware compared to classical methods. We detail the implementation of this quantum algorithm within the framework of QIP, highlighting its advantages in terms of computational efficiency and accuracy on a Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computing (FTQC). Furthermore, we present a comparative analysis of the quantum and the classical method of SVD, demonstrating the accuracy of the image data. The simulation results validate the theoretical advantages of using quantum algorithms for SVD in image processing. This work not only underscores the potential of quantum computing in enhancing image processing techniques but also sets the stage for future research in the field, exploring more complex image processing tasks and other quantum algorithms. Our findings suggest that quantum image processing can offer unprecedented capabilities, paving the way for advancements in various applications such as medical imaging, remote sensing, and multimedia processing.

Hybrid quantum singular spectrum decomposition for time series analysis

J. J. Postema, Pietro Bonizzi, G. Koekoek +2 more

Classical data analysis requires computational efforts that become intractable in the age of Big Data. An essential task in time series analysis is the extraction of physically meaningful information from a noisy time series. One algorithm devised for this very purpose is singular spectrum decomposition (SSD), an adaptive method that allows for the extraction of narrow-banded components from non-stationary and non-linear time series. The main computational bottleneck of this algorithm is the singular value decomposition (SVD). Quantum computing could facilitate a speedup in this domain through superior scaling laws. We propose quantum SSD by assigning the SVD subroutine to a quantum computer. The viability for implementation and performance of this hybrid algorithm on a near term hybrid quantum computer is investigated. In this work, we show that by employing randomized SVD, we can impose a qubit limit on one of the circuits to improve scalibility. Using this, we efficiently perform quantum SSD on simulations of local field potentials recorded in brain tissue, as well as GW150914, the first detected gravitational wave event.
