Generation of atomic and field squeezing by adiabatic passage and symmetry breaking

Abstract

We propose an efficient scheme for realizing squeezing for both an atomic ensemble and a cavity field via adiabatic evolution of the dark state of the atom-cavity system. Controlled symmetry breaking of the Hamiltonian ensures a unique dark state for the total system, in which the atomic system or cavity mode is squeezed depending upon the choice of the detunings. Since the generation of the atomic squeezed state requires neither the cavity mode nor the atomic system to be excited, the decoherence effects are effectively suppressed. The scheme is insensitive to the uncertainty in the atomic number and imperfect timing, and the time needed for the generation of the desired squeezed state decreases as the size of the system grows. The required experimental techniques are within the scope of what can be obtained in the present cavity QED setups.

Fast Generation of Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen States for Two Cavity Modes with a Collection of Driven Atoms

LU Dao-ming, Shi-Biao Zheng

We propose an efficient scheme for realizing two-mode squeezing for two cavity modes with an atomic ensemble trapped in the cavity and driven by two classical fields. Through a suitable choice of the driving classical fields, the evolution dynamics of the two cavity modes is decoupled with the atomic system and described by a two-mode squeezing operator. We show that a highly squeezed state can be obtained at the output even with a bad cavity. The required experimental techniques are within the scope of what can be obtained in the BEC-cavity setup.

Entangled W State Generation via Adiabatic Passage in Cavity QED

Ma Song-She

A scheme is proposed to generate W state of N atoms trapped in a cavity, based on adiabatic passage along dark state. Taking advantage of adiabatic passage, the atoms have no probability of being excited and thus the atomic spontaneous emission is suppressed. The scheme is simple. It does not need to adjust the interaction time accurately, and does not need to prepare the cavity field in one-photon state. Numerical simulation shows that the successful probability of the scheme increases with the increasing of the atom number.

Deterministic generation of singlet state ofNatoms in coupled cavities via adiabatic passage of a dark state

Zhen Chen, Ye‐Hong Chen, Yan Xia

In this paper, we propose an efficient scheme to generate the N-atom singlet state via adiabatic passage of a dark state in cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) system. Appropriate Rabi frequencies of the classical fields are selected to realize the present scheme. We discuss the influence of decoherence induced by cavity decay and atomic spontaneous emission by numerical calculation. The result shows that the scheme is insensitive to atomic spontaneous emission as the atomic excited state is hardly populated in adiabatic evolution.

Generation of Atomic Cluster State via Adiabatic Evolution of Dark Eigenstates

Ju-mei Chen, Cheng-Zu Li, Lin-Mei Liang +2 more

We propose a scheme to generate atomic cluster states of arbitrary configuration in the cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) system. The process is achieved via adiabatic evolution of dark states, which only requires adiabatically increasing or decreasing Rabi frequencies of laser. Thus it allows the robust implementation of entanglement against certain types of errors. Our scheme is relatively decoherence-free in the sense that excited atomic states are never populated and excited cavity photon states can be made negligible in certain conditions.

Generation of two-mode field squeezing through selective dynamics in cavity QED

Fuli Li

We propose a scheme for the generation of a two-mode field squeezed state in cavity QED. It is based on two-channel Raman excitations of a beam of three-level atoms with random arrival times by two classical fields and two high-$Q$ resonator modes. It is shown that by suitably choosing the intensities and detunings of fields the dynamical processes can be selective and two-mode squeezing between the cavity modes can be generated at steady state. This proposal does not need the preparation of the initial states of atoms and cavity modes, and is robust against atomic spontaneous decay.

Generation of decoherence-free displaced squeezed states of radiation fields and a squeezed reservoir for atoms in cavity QED

T. Werlang, Robert Guzman, F. O. Prado +1 more

We present a way to engineer an effective anti-Jaynes-Cumming and a Jaynes-Cumming interaction between an atomic system and a single cavity mode and show how to employ it in reservoir engineering processes. To construct the effective Hamiltonian, we analyze the interaction of an atomic system in a $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$ configuration, driven by classical fields, with a single cavity mode. With this interaction, we first show how to generate a decoherence-free displaced squeezed state for the cavity field. In our scheme, an atomic beam works as a reservoir for the radiation field trapped inside the cavity, as employed recently by S. Pielawa et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 98, 240401 (2007)] to generate an Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen entangled radiation state in high-$Q$ resonators. In our scheme, all the atoms have to be prepared in the ground state and, as in the cited article, neither atomic detection nor precise interaction times between the atoms and the cavity mode are required. From this same interaction, we can also generate an ideal squeezed reservoir for atomic systems. For this purpose we have to assume, in addition to the engineered atom-field interaction, a strong decay of the cavity field (i.e., the cavity decay must be much stronger than the effective atom-field coupling). With this scheme, some interesting effects in the dynamics of an atom in a squeezed reservoir could be tested.
