Multipartite minimum-uncertainty products

Abstract

In a previous work [Shchukin, Phys. Rev. A 84, 052325 (2011)] a lower bound was found for the multipartite uncertainty product of the position and momentum observables over all separable states. In this work we are trying to minimize this uncertainty product over a broader class of states to find the fundamental limits imposed by nature on the observable quantities. We show that it is necessary to consider pure states only and find the infimum of the uncertainty product over a special class of pure states (states with spherically symmetric wave functions). It is shown that this infimum is not attained. We also explicitly construct a parametrized family of states that approaches the infimum by varying the parameter. Since the constructed states beat the lower bound for separable states, they are entangled. We thus show that there is a gap that separates the values of a simple measurable quantity for separable states from entangled ones and we also try to find the size of this gap.

Collective Uncertainty Entanglement Test

Łukasz Rudnicki, Paweł Horodecki, Karol Życzkowski

For a given pure state of a composite quantum system we analyze the product of its projections onto a set of locally orthogonal separable pure states. We derive a bound for this product analogous to the entropic uncertainty relations. For bipartite systems the bound is saturated for maximally entangled states and it allows us to construct a family of entanglement measures, we shall call collectibility. As these quantities are experimentally accessible, the approach advocated contributes to the task of experimental quantification of quantum entanglement, while for a three-qubit system it is capable to identify the genuine three-party entanglement.

Separability gap and large-deviation entanglement criterion

Jakub Czartowski, Konrad Szymański, Bartłomiej Gardas +2 more

For a given Hamiltonian $H$ on a multipartite quantum system, one is interested in finding the energy ${E}_{0}$ of its ground state. In the separability approximation, arising as a natural consequence of measurement in a separable basis, one looks for the minimal expectation value ${\ensuremath{\lambda}}_{\mathrm{min}}^{\ensuremath{\bigotimes}}$ of $H$ among all product states. For several concrete model Hamiltonians, we investigate the difference ${\ensuremath{\lambda}}_{\mathrm{min}}^{\ensuremath{\bigotimes}}\ensuremath{-}{E}_{0}$, called the separability gap, which vanishes if the ground state has a product structure. In the generic case of a random Hermitian matrix of the Gaussian orthogonal ensemble, we find explicit bounds for the size of the gap which depend on the number of subsystems and hold with probability one. This implies an effective entanglement criterion applicable for any multipartite quantum system: If an expectation value of a typical observable of a given state is sufficiently distant from the average value, the state is almost surely entangled.

Additivity of entropic uncertainty relations

René Schwonnek

We consider the uncertainty between two pairs of local projective measurements performed on a multipartite system. We show that the optimal bound in any linear uncertainty relation, formulated in terms of the Shannon entropy, is additive. This directly implies, against naive intuition, that the minimal entropic uncertainty can always be realized by fully separable states. Hence, in contradiction to proposals by other authors, no entanglement witness can be constructed solely by comparing the attainable uncertainties of entangled and separable states. However, our result gives rise to a huge simplification for computing global uncertainty bounds as they now can be deduced from local ones. Furthermore, we provide the natural generalization of the Maassen and Uffink inequality for linear uncertainty relations with arbitrary positive coefficients.

Upper bounds on quantum uncertainty products and complexity measures

Ángel Guerrero, Pablo Sánchez-Moreno, J. S. Dehesa

The position-momentum Shannon and R\'enyi uncertainty products of general quantum systems are shown to be bounded not only from below (through the known uncertainty relations), but also from above in terms of the Heisenberg-Kennard product $\ensuremath{\langle}{r}^{2}\ensuremath{\rangle}\ensuremath{\langle}{p}^{2}\ensuremath{\rangle}$. Moreover, the Cram\'er-Rao, Fisher-Shannon, and L\'opez-Ruiz, Mancini, and Calbet shape measures of complexity (whose lower bounds have been recently found) are also bounded from above. The improvement of these bounds for systems subject to spherically symmetric potentials is also explicitly given. Finally, applications to hydrogenic and oscillator-like systems are done.

Entropic uncertainty relations with quantum memory in a multipartite scenario

Qinghua Zhang, Shao-Ming Fei

Entropic uncertainty relations demonstrate the intrinsic uncertainty of nature from an information-theory perspective. Recently, a quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relation for multiple measurements was proposed by Wu et al. [Phys. Rev. A 106, 062219 (2022)]. Interestingly, the quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relation for multiple measurement settings can be further generalized. In this work, we propose two complementary multipartite quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relations and our lower bounds depend on values of complementarity of the observables, (conditional) von Neumann entropies, Holevo quantities, and mutual information. As an illustration, we provide several typical cases to exhibit that our bounds are tighter and outperform the previous bounds.

Observable measures of multipartite entanglement

Francois Payn, Davide Girolami

Multipartite entanglement is the premier resource for quantum technologies. Yet, its exact quantification in the laboratory is notoriously challenging, typically requiring the full knowledge of high dimensional quantum states. Here, we construct observable bounds to multipartite entanglement for systems of arbitrary size, which are functions of the local and global state purities, and correlation functions. First, we derive experimentally accessible upper and lower limits to both the bipartite entanglement of formation and the squashed entanglement of bipartite systems, by leveraging cornerstone results of quantum information theory: the entropy strong subadditivity inequality and the Koashi-Winter monogamy relation. Then, we convert them into bounds to the entanglement up to degree k for arbitrary states, and to the genuine k-partite entanglement, by employing a recently proposed method. Finally, we analytically and numerically test these results, by bounding the multipartite entanglement of several relevant states and mixtures, including the important classes of GHZ, Dicke, W states, and random pure states.
