We report the first observation of the coherent CuCl phonon driven by the Rabi oscillation in the CuCl microcavity. It is found that the coherent phonon is drastically enhanced by the Rabi oscillation.

Experimental Observation of Rabi Oscillations in Photonic Lattices

K. V. Shandarova, Christian E. Rüter, Detlef Kip +4 more

We demonstrate spatial Rabi oscillations in optical waveguide arrays. Adiabatic transitions between extended Floquet-Bloch modes associated with different bands are stimulated by periodic modulation of the photonic lattice in the propagation direction. When the stimulating modulation also carries transverse momentum, the transition becomes indirect, equivalent to phonon-assisted Rabi oscillations. In solid state physics such indirect Rabi oscillations necessitate coherent phonons and hence they have never been observed. Our experiments suggest that phonon-assisted Rabi oscillations are observable also with Bose-Einstein condensates, as well as with other wave systems-where coherence can be maintained for at least one period of the Rabi oscillation.

Coherent many-body Rabi oscillations via superradiance and superabsorption and the mean-field approach for a superradiant laser

Rodrigo A. Dourado, M. H. Y. Moussa

The experimental success achieved in recent decades in the coherent manipulation of several Rabi cycles has led to a new stage in the physics of radiation-matter interaction. Motivated by this perspective, we propose here the engineering of coherent many-body Rabi oscillations (CMBROs) induced from the interactions of a moderately dense atomic sample with the environment and a high-finesse cavity mode. The CMBRO follows from the interplay between superradiance and superabsorption: the collective decay and absorption of the atomic sample inside the cavity. The equations we have derived for this interplay, based on the mean-field approximation, describe a two-level superradiant laser in an appropriate parameter regime, and its properties are also discussed. The control of quantum coherence according to the method presented here can be adapted to the implementation of quantum information processes as well as for the investigation of the fundamentals of quantum mechanics.

Anderson orthogonality scaling in the Rabi-driven heavy Fermi polaron

Michael Rautenberg, Tobias Krom, Eugen Dizer +6 more

The Anderson orthogonality catastrophe (AOC) is a paradigmatic many-body phenomenon in which a local perturbation induces a macroscopic response of a Fermi sea. We probe signatures of the AOC by coherently driving heavy Fermi polarons in an ultracold $^6$Li-$^{133}$Cs mixture. We observe a power-law dependence of the measured Rabi frequency on the drive strength, with exponents consistent with AOC predictions. Finite-temperature simulations quantitatively reproduce the observed scaling, indicating that AOC signatures persist beyond the idealized zero-temperature, infinite-mass limit. The damping of the Rabi oscillations provides access to polaron dephasing and reveals a nonmonotonic drive dependence, qualitatively consistent with current theories. Our results establish coherently driven impurities as a versatile probe of quantum many-body dynamics through local coherent control.
