Interference effects in the reradiation of ultrashort electromagnetic pulses

Abstract

Reradiation of a spatially non-uniform ultrashort electromagnetic pulse interacting with the linear chain of multielectron atoms is studied in the framework of sudden perturbation approximation. Angular distributions of the reradiation spectrum for arbitrary number of atoms are obtained. It is shown that interference effects for the photon radiation amplitudes lead to appearing of "diffraction" maximums. The obtained results can be extended to the case of two- and three-dimensional crystal lattices and atomic chains. The approach developed allows also to take into account thermal vibrations of the lattice atoms.

Reemission spectra and interference effects at the interaction of multiatomic targets with ultrashort electromagnetic pulses

V. I. Matveev, Davron U. Matrasulov

The processes of reemission of ultrashort electromagnetic pulses by linear chains consisting of isolated multielectron atoms have been considered. The developed method makes it possible to accurately take into account the spatial inhomogeneity of the field of an ultrashort pulse and the momenta of photons in reemission processes. The angular distributions of reemission spectra have been obtained for an arbitrary number of atoms in a chain. It has been shown that the interference of the photon emission amplitudes leads to the appearance of characteristic “diffraction” maxima. The results allow standard generalization to the cases of rescattering from two-dimensional (graphene-like) and three-dimensional lattices, as well as to the case of the inclusion of thermal vibrations of the atoms of lattices.

Interference effects during the reradiation of ultrashort electromagnetic pulses by polyatomic systems

Dmitry N. Makarov, V. I. Matveev

A theory of the reradiation of ultrashort electromagnetic pulses by arbitrary polyatomic systems of isolated complex atoms has been developed. The technique used allows the spatial inhomogeneity of the field of an ultrashort pulse and photon momenta in reradiation processes to be accurately taken into account. The angular distributions of the reradiation spectra have been obtained for an arbitrary number of atoms in the system. The processes of interference between the photon emission amplitudes are shown to give rise to characteristic “diffraction” maxima. We consider one-dimensional, two-dimensional, and three-dimensional rectangular lattices as examples as well as planar and cylindrical structures as models of planar nanosystems and nanotubes.

Electron transitions and radiation of atoms interacting with ultrashort electromagnetic pulses

V. I. Matveev

Excitation and ionization of an atom interacting with a short electromagnetic pulse is studied within the framework of the sudden perturbation approximation. The excitation and ionization probabilities and the spectra and cross sections of reradiation of the pulse by the atom are calculated. It is suggested that the process of reradiation of ultrashort electromagnetic pulses by multielectron atoms possesses a coherent character.

Electron transitions and the spectrum of radiation emitted by an atom interacting with an ultrashort electromagnetic pulse

V. I. Matveev

Electron transitions and the spectrum of radiation emitted by an atom interacting with an ultrashort electromagnetic pulse are studied based on the sudden perturbation approximation. The excitation and ionization probabilities, the spectra of pulse reradiation by the atom, and the reradiation cross sections are calculated. It is concluded that the reradiation of ultrashort electromagnetic pulses by multielectron atoms is of a coherent nature.

Reemission spectra and interference effects upon interaction of ultrashort electromagnetic pulses with nanosystems

Dmitry N. Makarov, V. I. Matveev

The processes of reemission of ultrashort electromagnetic pulses by arbitrary nanosystems consisted of isolated complex atoms have been considered. The angular distributions of reemission spectra have been obtained for a series of regular nanosystems. It has been shown that the interference of the photon-emission amplitudes leads to the appearance of characteristic “diffraction” maxima. One-, two-, and three-dimensional nanostructures, as well as planar and cylindrical constructions as models of planar nanosystems and nanotubes, were used as examples that allow a simple analytical consideration.

Effect of thermal vibrations on interference effects at the reemission of attosecond electromagnetic pulses by regular multiatomic systems

Dmitry N. Makarov, V. I. Matveev

The theory of reemission of attosecond electromagnetic pulses by regular multiatomic systems of identical complex atoms has been developed with allowance for thermal vibrations. It has been shown that thermal vibrations result in noticeable changes in the “diffraction” maxima characteristic of regular targets with atoms at rest. A one-dimensional lattice has been considered as an example. Generalization to two- and three-dimensional lattices has been given.
