Quantum harmonic oscillator for dipoles

Abstract

In this work we investigate which radial field configuration yields bound states for neutral particles showing non-zero magnetic and electric dipole moments. The main result is that, in contrast with previous works, the Landau analog levels only exist if these radial magnetic and electric external fields are proportional to the third power of distance, not proportional to the distance. We derive the wave functions and the energy levels in the context of commutative and non-commutative quantum mechanics. We also show that, in the case of non-commutative phase space, these harmonic oscillator like spectrum do exist even if there is no external radial magnetic and electric fields. They are only consequence of the non-commutativity in the momenta.

Noncommutative space effects on the Landau system for a neutral particle with induced electric dipole moment under a linear confining potential

Abdelali Saidi, Moulay Brahim Sedra

In this contribution, we study the effects of space noncommutativity on the Landau system for a neutral particle with induced electric dipole moment subject to a linear confining potential. We analytically solve the Schrödinger equation and obtain the complete set of energy levels and the corresponding radial wave functions for the system in terms of the noncommutativity parameter [Formula: see text].

Some aspects of an induced electric dipole moment in rotating and non-rotating frames

Abinael B. Oliveira, K. Bakke

Quantum effects on a neutral particle (atom or molecule) with an induced electric dipole moment are investigated when it is subject to the Kratzer potential and a scalar potential proportional to the radial distance. In addition, this neutral is placed in a region with electric and magnetic fields. This system is analysed in both non-rotating and rotating reference frames. Then, it is shown that bound state solutions to the Schrödinger equation can be achieved and, in the search for polynomial solutions to the radial wave function, a restriction on the values of the cyclotron frequency is analysed in both reference frames.

Relativistic Landau quantization for a neutral particle

K. Bakke, Claudio Furtado

In this contribution we study the Landau levels arising within the relativistic quantum dynamics of a neutral particle with a permanent magnetic dipole moment interacting with an external electric field. We consider the Aharonov-Casher coupling of the magnetic dipole to the electric field and investigate an analog of Landau quantization in this system for two different field configurations. In both cases we obtain the eigenfunctions and eigenvalues of the Hamiltonian.

SL(3|N) Wigner quantum oscillators: examples of ferromagnetic-like oscillators with noncommutative, square-commutative geometry

T. D. Palev

A system of $N$ non-canonical dynamically free 3D harmonic oscillators is studied. The position and the momentum operators (PM-operators) of the system do not satisfy the canonical commutation relations (CCRs). Instead they obey the weaker postulates for the oscillator to be a Wigner quantum system. In particular the PM-operators fulfil the main postulate, which is due to Wigner: they satisfy the equations of motion (the Hamiltonian's equations) and the Heisenberg equations. One of the relevant features is that the coordinate (the momentum) operators do not commute, but instead their squares do commute. As a result the space structure of the basis states corresponds to pictures when each oscillating particle is measured to occupy with equal probability only finite number of points, typically the eight vertices of a parallelepiped. The state spaces are finite-dimensional, the spectrum of the energy is finite with equally spaced energy levels. An essentially new feature is that the angular momenta of all particles are aligned. Therefore there exists a strong interaction or correlation between the particles, which is not of dynamical, but of statistical origin. Another relevant feature is that the standard deviations of, say, the $k$-th coordinate and the momenta of $α$-th is $ Δ\hat R_{αk} Δ\hat P_{αk} \le {p \hbar/{|N-3|}}~(~N\ne 3,~ p -$fixed positive integer), namely instead of uncertainty relations one has "certainty" relations. The underlying Lie superalgebraic structure of the oscillator is also relevant and will be explained in the context.

Effects on a Landau-type system for a neutral particle with no permanent electric dipole moment subject to the Kratzer potential in a rotating frame

Abinael B. Oliveira, Knut Bakke

The behaviour of a neutral particle (atom, molecule) with an induced electric dipole moment in a region with a uniform effective magnetic field under the influence of the Kratzer potential (Kratzer 1920 Z. Phys. 3 , 289–307. ( doi:10.1007/BF01327754 )), and rotating effects is analysed. It is shown that the degeneracy of the Landau-type levels is broken and the angular frequency of the system acquires a new contribution that stems from the rotation effects. Moreover, in the search for bound state solutions, it is shown that the possible values of this angular frequency of the system are determined by the quantum numbers associated with the radial modes and the angular momentum, the angular velocity of the rotating frame and by the parameters associated with the Kratzer potential.

Dual families of noncommutative quantum systems

Frederik G. Scholtz, Biswajit Chakraborty, Sunandan Gangopadhyay +1 more

We demonstrate how a one parameter family of interacting noncommuting Hamiltonians, which are physically equivalent, can be constructed in noncommutative quantum mechanics. This construction is carried out exactly (to all orders in the noncommutative parameter) and analytically in two dimensions for a free particle and a harmonic oscillator moving in a constant magnetic field. We discuss the significance of the Seiberg-Witten map in this context. It is shown for the harmonic oscillator potential that an approximate duality, valid in the low-energy sector, can be constructed between the interacting commutative and a noninteracting noncommutative Hamiltonian. This approximation holds to order $1/B$ and is therefore valid in the case of strong magnetic fields and weak Landau-level mixing.
