On a proposal of superluminal communication

GianCarlo Ghirardi, Raffaele Romano

Published May 23, 2012• 11 citations
arXivHTMLPDF

Abstract

Recently, various new proposals of superluminal transmission of information have been suggested in the literature. Since the proposals make systematic use of recent formal and practical improvements in quantum mechanics, the old theorems proving the impossibility of such a performance must be adapted to the new scenario. In this communication, we consider some of the most challenging proposals of this kind and we show why they cannot work.

On superluminal information transmission using quantum systems

Giovanni Andrea Fantasia

Abstract. In the present work we investigate the possibility of superluminal information transmission using quantum systems. We give a general argument to prove that local actions on general entangled system are not useful at the purpose. A protocol for superluminal information transmission that makes use of a kind of observables we have discovered is proposed.

Superluminality in Quantum Theory

Giovanni Andrea Fantasia

In the present work we investigate the possibility of superluminal information transmission in quantum theory. We give simple and general arguments to prove that the general structure (Hilbert's space plus instantaneous state reduction) of the theory allows the existence of superluminal communication. We discuss how this relates with existing no-signalling theorems.

On Kalamidas' proposal of faster than light quantum communication

G. C. Ghirardi, Romano, Raffaele

In a recent paper, Kalamidas has advanced a new proposal of faster than light communication which has not yet been proved invalid. In this paper, by strictly sticking to the standard quantum formalism we prove that, as all previous proposals, it does not work.

An Old Look at Extended Wigner's Friend Scenarios

Yanis Pianko

We present a general formalism to formulate Bell's theorem, no-hidden variables proofs and extended Wigner's friend scenarios. This common mathematical framework allows to bridge the differences between an old (short-lived) research program (that of modal interpretations) and the more recent literature on perspectival anti-realist interpretations. We find that our unifying mathematical approach gives a clear content to the technical aspect of various no-go theorem, and provides new insights on their conceptual role by allowing comparison between different research programs.
