Pair superfluid and supersolid of correlated hard-core bosons on a triangular lattice

Abstract

We have systematically studied the hard-core Bose-Hubbard model with correlated hopping on a triangular lattice using the density-matrix renormalization group method. A rich ground-state phase diagram is determined. In this phase diagram there is a supersolid phase and a pair superfluid phase due to the interplay between the ordinary frustrated boson hopping and an unusual correlated hopping. In particular, we find that the quantum phase transition between the supersolid phase and the pair superfluid phase is continuous.

Supersolid States in a Hard-Core Bose–Hubbard Model on a Layered Triangular Lattice

Ryota Suzuki, Akihisa Koga

We study ground-state properties in a hard-core Bose-Hubbard model on a layered triangular lattice. Combining cluster mean-field theory with the density matrix renormalization group method, we discuss the effect of the interlayer coupling on the supersolid states realized in a single layered model. By examining the distributions for the particle density and superfluid order parameter, the rich phase diagram of the system is obtained. We find that the supersolid states are widely stabilized at a commensurate filling, in contrast to the case of the single layered model. The nature of the supersolid states is also addressed.

Pair supersolid with atom-pair hopping on the state-dependent triangular lattice

Wanzhou Zhang, Ruoxi Yin, Yan-Cheng Wang

We systematically study an extended Bose-Hubbard model with atom hopping and atom-pair hopping in the presence of a three-body constraint on the triangular lattice. By means of large-scale quantum Monte Carlo simulations, the ground-state phase diagram is studied. We find a first-order transition between the atomic superfluid phase and the pair superfluid phase when the ratio of the atomic hopping and the atom-pair hopping is adapted. The first-order transition remains unchanged under various conditions. We then focus on the interplay among the atom-pair hopping, the on-site repulsion, and the nearest-neighbor repulsion. With on-site repulsion present, we observe first-order transitions between the Mott insulators and pair superfluid driven by the pair hopping. With the nearest-neighbor repulsion turning on, three typical solid phases with $2/3$, 1, and $4/3$ filling emerge at small atom-pair hopping region. A stable pair supersolid phase is found at small on-site repulsion. This is due to the three-body constraint and the pair hopping, which essentially make the model a quasihardcore boson system. Thus the pair supersolid state emerges basing on the order-by-disorder mechanism, by which hardcore bosons avoid classical frustration on the triangular lattice. Without on-site repulsion, the transitions between the pair supersolid and the atom superfluid or pair superfluid are first order, except for the particle-hole symmetric point. With weak on-site repulsion and atom hopping turning on, the transition between the pair supersolid and pair superfluid phase becomes continuous. The transition between solid and pair supersolid is three-dimensional $XY$ university, with dynamical exponent $z=1$ and correlation exponent $\ensuremath{\nu}=0.671\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}55$. The thermal melting of pair supersolid belongs to the two-dimensional Ising university. We check both energetic and mechanical balance of pair supersolid phase. Lowering the three-body constraint, no pair supersolid is found due to the absence of degeneracy of pair solids in classical limits. We describe the experimental realization of pair tunneling on state dependent lattice.

Supersolidity and phase diagram of soft-core bosons on a triangular lattice

Jing-Yu Gan, Yu-Chuan Wen, Yue Yu

We study the soft-core extended Bose-Hubbard model in a two-dimensional triangular lattice by using the quantum Monte Carlo methods. The ground-state phase diagram of the system exhibits a very fruitful structure and is much intriguing. Aside from the Mott insulating state, four kinds of solid states with respect to the commensurate filling factors $\ensuremath{\rho}=1∕3,2∕3$ and $\ensuremath{\rho}=1$ are identified. In incommensurate fillings, superfluid, supersolid, as well as phase-separation states are detected. As in the case of the hard-core bosons, a supersolid phase exists in $1∕3<\ensuremath{\rho}<2∕3$ while it is unstable toward the phase separation in $\ensuremath{\rho}<1∕3$. However, this instability is refrained in $2∕3<\ensuremath{\rho}<1$ due to the softening of the bosons, and then a supersolid phase survives.

Supersolid order of frustrated hard-core bosons in a triangular lattice system

Hong‐Chen Jiang, M. Q. Weng, Zheng-Yu Weng +2 more

We numerically demonstrate that a supersolid phase exists in a frustrated hard-core boson system on a triangular lattice over a wide range of interaction strength. In the infinite repulsion (Ising) limit, we establish a mapping to the same problem with unfrustrated hopping, which connects the supersolid to the known results in that case. The weak superfluidity can be destroyed or strongly enhanced by a next-nearest-neighbor hopping term, which provides valuable information for experimental realization of a supersolid phase on optical lattice. A phase diagram for the frustrated anisotropic Heisenberg model on triangular lattice is also established.

Supersolid Hard-Core Bosons on the Triangular Lattice

Stefan Weßel, Matthias Troyer

We determine the phase diagram of hard-core bosons on a triangular lattice with nearest-neighbor repulsion, paying special attention to the stability of the supersolid phase. Similar to the same model on a square lattice we find that for densities rho<1/3 or rho>2/3 a supersolid phase is unstable and the transition between a commensurate solid and the superfluid is of first order. At intermediate fillings 1/3<rho<2/3 we find an extended supersolid phase even at half filling rho=1/2. The emergence of the supersolid on the triangular lattice reflects a novel and interesting way for a quantum system to avoid classical frustration, similar to an order-by-disorder mechanism. It also offers an exciting possibility of realizing such phenomena in ultracold atoms on optical lattices.

Quantum phases and phase transitions of frustrated hard-core bosons on a triangular ladder

Tapan Mishra, Ramesh V. Pai, Subroto Mukerjee +1 more

Kinetically frustrated bosons at half filling in the presence of a competing nearest-neighbor repulsion support a wide supersolid regime on the two-dimensional triangular lattice. We study this model on a two-leg ladder using the finite-size density-matrix renormalization-group method, obtaining a phase diagram which contains three phases: a uniform superfluid (SF), an insulating charge density wave (CDW) crystal, and a bond ordered insulator (BO). We show that the transitions from SF to CDW and SF to BO are continuous in nature, with critical exponents varying continuously along the phase boundaries, while the transition from CDW to BO is found to be first order. The phase diagram is also found to contain an exactly solvable Majumdar Ghosh point, and reentrant SF to CDW phase transitions.
