Abstract

We derive a set of hierarchical equations for qubits interacting with a Lorentz-broadened cavity mode at zero temperature, without using the rotating-wave, Born, and Markovian approximations. We use this exact method to reexamine the entanglement dynamics of two qubits interacting with a common bath, which was previously solved only under the rotating-wave and single-excitation approximations. With the exact hierarchy equation method used here, double excitations due to counter-rotating-wave terms are found to have remarkable effects on the dynamics and the steady-state entanglement.

Exact dynamics of quantum correlations of two qubits coupled to bosonic baths

Chen Wang, Qing-Hu Chen

Dynamics of the quantum entanglement and quantum discord of two qubits in two independent baths and a common bath with the Lorentzian spectrum are studied exactly in the numerical sense within the hierarchy approach. The effects of the counter-rotating-wave terms from the system–bath coherence on these quantum correlations are systematically discussed and comparisons with previous ones under the rotating-wave approximation are also performed. For two independent baths, beyond the weak system–bath coupling, the counter-rotating-wave terms essentially change evolutions of both the entanglement and quantum discord. With increase of the coupling, revival of the entanglement after a period of complete disentanglement is suppressed dramatically and finally disappears, and the quantum discord becomes smaller monotonically. For the common bath, the entanglement is also suppressed by the counter-rotating-wave terms, but the quantum discord shows quite different behaviors if initiated from spin-correlated states. In the non-Markovian regime, the quantum discord is almost not influenced by the counter-rotating-wave terms and is generally finite in the long-time evolution at arbitrary coupling while in the Markovian regime, it is significantly enhanced with the strong coupling.

Steady-state entanglement and heat current of two coupled qubits in two baths without rotating wave approximation*

Meijiao Wang, Yun‐Jie Xia

We study the steady-state entanglement and heat current of two coupled qubits, in which two qubits are connected with two independent heat baths (IHBs) or two common heat baths (CHBs). We construct the master equation in the eigenstate representation of two coupled qubits to describe the dynamics of the total system and derive the solutions in the steady-state with stronger coupling regime between two qubits than qubit–baths. We do not make the rotating wave approximation (RWA) for the qubit–qubit interaction, and so we are able to investigate the behaviors of the system in both the strong coupling regime and the weak coupling regime, respectively. In an equilibrium bath, we find that the entanglement decreases with the bath temperature and energy detuning increasing under the strong coupling regime. In the weak coupling regime, the entanglement increases with coupling strength increasing and decreases with the bath temperature and energy detuning increasing. In a nonequilibrium bath, the entanglement without RWA is useful for entanglement at lower temperatures. We also study the heat currents of the two coupled qubits and their variations with the energy detuning, coupling strength and low temperature. In the strong (weak) coupling regime, the heat current increases (decreases) with coupling strength increasing when the temperature of one bath is lower (higher) than the other, and the energy detuning leads to a positive (negative) effect when the temperature is low (high). In the weak coupling regime, the variation trend of heat current is opposite to that of coupling strength for the IHB case and the CHB case.

Decoherence of two qubits in non-Markovian reservoirs without the rotating-wave approximation

Wang Fa-Qiang, Zhi‐Ming Zhang, Ruisheng Liang

The decoherence of two initially entangled qubits in non-Markovian reservoirs has been investigated exactly without Born-Markovian approximation or rotating-wave approximation (RWA). The nonperturbative quantum master equation is derived and its exact solution is obtained. The decoherence behavior of two qubits, initially entangled in Bell states, has been investigated in the weak coupling regime and strong coupling regime. The results show that the counter-rotating wave terms have obvious influence on the decoherence behavior in the non-Markovian regime.

Dynamics of interacting qubits coupled to a common bath: Non-Markovian quantum-state-diffusion approach

Xinyu Zhao, Jun Jing, Brittany Corn +1 more

Non-Markovian dynamics is studied for two interacting qubits strongly coupled to a dissipative bosonic environment. We derive a non-Markovian quantum-state-diffusion (QSD) equation for the coupled two-qubit system without any approximations, and in particular, without the Markov approximation. As an application and illustration of our derived time-local QSD equation, we investigate the temporal behavior of quantum coherence dynamics. In particular, we find a strongly non-Markovian regime where entanglement generation is significantly modulated by the environmental memory. Additionally, we study residual entanglement in the steady state by analyzing the steady-state solution of the QSD equation. Finally, we discuss an approximate QSD equation.

Entanglement Dynamics of Two Qubits Coupled Independently to Cavities in the Ultrastrong Coupling Regime: Analytical Results

Wei-Ting Zhu, Qing-Bao Ren, Liwei Duan +1 more

Dynamics of quantum entanglement of two qubits in two identical quantum Rabi models is studied analytically in the framework of corrections to the rotating-wave approximations. A closed-form expression for the entanglement dynamics initiated from the well-known Bell states is derived, which is very close to the numerical exact results up to the ultrastrong coupling regime. It is found that the vanishing entanglement can be purely induced by the counter-rotating terms, and can be enhanced with the atom–cavity coupling.

Transfer of nonlocality between two- and three-qubit dissipative systems with counter-rotating-wave terms

Zi-Yu Xiong, Yongjun Xiao, Ye-Qi Zhang +1 more

We investigate the effect of counter-rotating-wave terms on nonlocality and entanglement for three qubits coupled to a common bath for strong- and ultrastrong-coupling regimes beyond the traditional treatment of Born-Markovian, perturbative, and rotating-wave approximations by employing the numerical hierarchical equations-of-motion approach. Our findings are as follows: (1) In the strong-coupling regime, the counter-rotating terms accelerate the decay of genuine three-party correlations, and the obvious sudden birth of Bell nonlocality is found. (2) In the ultrastrong-coupling regime, we observe a phenomenon in which nonlocality is consistently transferred between a three-qubit system and its subsystem. In addition, the inclusion of counter-rotating wave terms obviously enhances genuine tripartite nonlocality. (3) These counter-rotating terms cannot effectively generate genuine three-party correlations in zero-excitation cases, which differs from previous studies involving only two qubits. (4) A significant reduction in steady-state correlations for three- and two-party systems due to counter-rotating-wave terms is observed, which is not detectable under the rotating-wave approximation.
