Abstract

We review the definition and the concepts of the weak values and some measurement model to extract the weak value. This material is based on the author Ph.D. thesis "Time in Weak Values and Discrete Time Quantum Walk" at Tokyo Institute of Technology (2011).

Weak values and weak measurements in quantum mechanics

Ludvík Vízdal

The main goal of this thesis is to introdude to readers the concept of weak measure- ments in quantum mechanics. Firstly a model of indirect measuremnts is established as an alternative to Von Neumann measurement postulate. This model leads to a possible generalization in a form of weak measurements. Then the concept of postselection is introduced and involved into the issue of weak measurements which leads to the weak values of physical quantities. All these theoretical concepts are presented using simple model examples. Finally, a discussion in provided on the possible interpretation and of weak values and their experimental verification.

On the interpretation of quantum mechanical weak values

B. E. Y. Svensson

After a brief review of how quantum mechanical weak measurements plus post-selection give rise to the weak value concept, I criticize an interpretation of a weak value as any sort of straightforward, bona fide property of the system under investigation.

On the Robustness of Weak Values and its Application to Communication

Samuel Parra-San-Pedro

This thesis provides an introduction to the quantum mechanical concept of “weak values”. It is followed by the introduction of a communication protocol that takes advantage of the useful properties of these measurements, along with a suggested changeto transmit more complex messages. The robustness of the weak values is presented and then applied and adapted in order to improve the protocol, together with a simulation that provides numerical evidence for its effectiveness.

Introduction to Weak Measurements and Weak Values

Boaz Tamir, Eliahu Cohen

We present a short review of the theory of weak measurement. This should serve as a map for the theory and an easy way to get familiar with the main results, problems and paradoxes raised by the theory. Quanta 2013; 2: 7–17.
