Abstract

A definition of the Schmidt number of a state of an infinite dimensional bipartite quantum system is given and properties of the corresponding family of Schmidt classes are considered. The existence of states with a given Schmidt number such that any their countable convex decomposition does not contain pure states with finite Schmidt rank is established. Partially entanglement breaking channels in infinite dimensions are studied. Several properties of these channels well known in finite dimensions are generalized to the infinite dimensional case. At the same time, the existence of partially entanglement breaking channels (in particular, entanglement breaking channels) such that all operators in any their Kraus representations have infinite rank is proved.

Schmidt number and partially entanglement-breaking channels in infinite-dimensional quantum systems

Максим Евгеньевич Широков

The Schmidt number of a state of an infinite-dimensional composite quantum system is defined and several properties of the corresponding Schmidt classes are considered. It is shown that there are states with given Schmidt number such that any of their countable convex decompositions does not contain pure states of finite Schmidt rank. The classes of infinite-dimensional partially entanglement-breaking channels are considered, and generalizations of several properties of such channels, which were obtained earlier in the finite-dimensional case, are proved. At the same time, it is shown that there are partially entanglement-breaking channels (in particular, entanglement-breaking channels) such that all the operators in any of their Kraus representations are of infinite rank.

Constructingk-Schmidt witnesses for infinite-dimensional systems

Xin Li, Xiaochun Fang

We study the structure of k-Schmidt witnesses in infinite dimensions. We show that for any states with Schmidt number greater than , there exists a -Schmidt witnesses of the form to detect it, where and is a finite rank self-adjoint operator. We provide a method to construct -Schmidt witnesses with these forms. An elementary operator criterion to determine the lower bound of the Schmidt number of a state is obtained. We also construct a class of 2-Schmidt witnesses, from which we can detect the entanglement of states by entries of their matrix representations.

On the characterization of partially entanglement breaking and annihilating channels

Bivas Mallick, Nirman Ganguly, A. S. Majumdar

Transmission of high dimensional entanglement through quantum channels is a significant area of interest in quantum information science. The certification of high dimensional entanglement is usually done through Schmidt numbers, which quantify the entanglement dimensionality of quantum states. States with high Schmidt numbers provide a larger advantage in various quantum information processing tasks compared to quantum states with low Schmidt numbers. However, the action of quantum channels may reduce the Schmidt number of transmitted states, thereby degrading their resourcefulness. Here we present a comprehensive analysis of partially entanglement breaking channels which reduce the Schmidt number of bipartite composite systems. From a resource theoretic perspective, it becomes imperative to identify channels that preserve the Schmidt number. Based on our characterization we lay down prescriptions to identify such channels which are non-resource breaking, i.e., preserve the Schmidt number. Additionally, we introduce a new class of quantum channels, termed partially entanglement annihilating channels which reduce the Schmidt number of a quantum state that is a part of a larger composite system. Finally, we study the connection between entanglement breaking, partially entanglement breaking, and partially entanglement annihilating channels.

Entanglement-breaking channels in infinite dimensions

Alexander Semenovich Holevo

We give a representation for entanglement-breaking channels in separable Hilbert space that generalizes the "Kraus decomposition with rank one operators" and use it to describe the complementary channels. We also give necessary and sufficient condition of entanglement-breaking for a general quantum Gaussian channel. Application of this condition to one-mode channels provides several new cases where the additivity conjecture holds in full generality.

High-Dimensional Entanglement in States with Positive Partial Transposition

Marcus Huber, Ludovico Lami, Cécilia Lancien +1 more

Genuine high-dimensional entanglement, i.e., the property of having a high Schmidt number, constitutes an instrumental resource in quantum communication, overcoming limitations of low-dimensional systems. States with a positive partial transpose (PPT) are generally considered weakly entangled, as they can never be distilled into pure entangled states. This naturally raises the question of whether high Schmidt numbers are possible for PPT states. Volume estimates suggest that optimal, i.e., linear, scaling in the local dimension should be possible, albeit without providing insight into the possible slope. We provide the first explicit construction of a family of PPT states that achieves linear scaling in the local dimension and we prove that random PPT states typically share this feature. Our construction also allows us to prove a recent conjecture of Chen et al. on the existence of PPT states whose Schmidt number increases by an arbitrarily large amount upon partial transposition. Finally, we link the Schmidt number to entangled sub-block matrices of a quantum state. We use this connection to prove that quantum states that are either (i) invariant under partial transposition on the smallest of their two subsystems, or (ii) absolutely PPT cannot have a maximal Schmidt number. Overall, our findings shed new light on some fundamental problems in entanglement theory.

Entanglement-breaking channels in infinite dimensions

Alexander Semenovich Holevo

In the first part of the paper we give a representation for entanglement-breaking channels in separable Hilbert space that generalizes the “Kraus decomposition with rank-one operators” and use it to describe complementary channels. We also note that coherent information for antidegradable channel is always nonpositive. In the second part, we give necessary and sufficient condition for entanglement breaking for the general quantum Gaussian channel. Application of this condition to one-mode channels provides several new cases where the additivity conjecture holds in the strongest form.
