Abstract

We demonstrate that single-photon as well as biphoton revivals are possible in a new class of dynamic optical systems---the so-called Glauber-Fock oscillator lattices. In these arrays, both Bloch-like oscillations and dynamic delocalization can occur which can be described in closed form. The bunching and antibunching response of path-entangled photons can be pre-engineered in such coupled optical arrangements, and the emulation of fermionic behavior in this family of lattices is also considered. We elucidate these effects via pertinent examples.

Perfect transfer of path-entangled photons in Jx photonic lattices

We demonstrate that perfect transfer of path-entangled photons as well as of single-photon states is possible in a certain class of spin inspired optical systems---the so-called ${J}_{x}$ photonic lattices. In these fully integrable optical arrangements, perfect cyclic transitions from correlated states to totally anticorrelated states can naturally occur. Moreover we show that the bunching and antibunching response of path-entangled photons can be preengineered at will in such coupled optical arrangements. We elucidate these effects via pertinent examples.

Observation of Glauber-Fock dynamics in photonic lattices

Armando Pérez-Leija, Robert Keil, H. M. Moya-Cessa +2 more

We report the first observation of classical intensity distributions in optical arrays that are totally analogous to quantum coherent and displaced Fock states. Bloch-like oscillations and revivals are also predicted in such Glauber-Fock photonic lattices.

Quantum light in Glauber-Fock photonic lattices

Amit Rai, Dimitris G. Angelakis

Abstract The main objective of this work is to investigate, analyze and examine in detail the behavior of quantum light in a photonic lattice having a square root law distribution for the coupling constant known as a Glauber-Fock photonic lattice. We investigate the light dynamics for both small and large size lattices for the case of spatially extended path entangled input state. We also study the squeezed state inputs, where we focus on finite size lattices. We analyze in detail the behavior of the non-classical features such as squeezing and photon correlations at the output of the system. The results and findings show the transport and revival of these features as non-classical light propagates across the waveguide array. Our findings should have applications in the areas of photonic quantum information processing and simulation and are implementable with current technology.

Quantum correlation of path-entangled two-photon states in waveguide arrays with defects

Yiling Dou, Lei Xu, Bin Han +3 more

We study the quantum correlation of path-entangled states of two photons in coupled one-dimensional waveguide arrays with lattice defects. Both off-diagonal and diagonal defects are considered, which show different effects on the quantum correlation of path-entangled two-photon states. Two-photon bunching or anti-bunching effects can be observed and controlled. The two photons are found to have a tendency to bunch at the side lobes with a repulsive off-diagonal defect, and the path-entanglement of the input two-photon state can be preserved during the propagation. We also found that defect modes may play an important role on the two-photon correlation of path-entangled states in the waveguide arrays. Due to the quantum interference effect, intriguing evolution dynamics of the two-photon correlation matrix elements with oscillation frequencies being either twice of or the same as that of a classical light wave, depending on the position of the correlation matrix element, is observed. Our results show that it is possible to manipulate the two-photon correlation properties of path-entangled states in waveguide arrays with lattice defects.

Bloch Oscillations of Path-Entangled Photons

Yaron Bromberg, Yoav Lahini, Yaron R. Silberberg

We show that when photons in N-particle path-entangled |N,0)+|0,N) or N00N states undergo Bloch oscillations, they exhibit a periodic transition between spatially bunched and antibunched states. The period of the bunching-antibunching oscillation is N times faster than the period of the oscillation of the photon density, manifesting the unique coherence properties of N00N states. The transition occurs even when the photons are well separated in space.
