Universality in bosonic dimer-dimer scattering

arXivHTMLPDF

Abstract

Bosonic dimer-dimer scattering is studied near the unitary limit using momentum-space equations for the four-particle transition operators. The impact of the Efimov effect on the dimer-dimer scattering observables is explored, and a number of universal relations is established with high accuracy. The rate for the creation of Efimov trimers via dimer-dimer collisions is calculated.

Universal bosonic tetramers of dimer-atom-atom structure

Arnoldas Deltuva

Unstable four-boson states having an approximate dimer-atom-atom structure are studied using momentum-space integral equations for the four-particle transition operators. For a given Efimov trimer the universal properties of the lowest associated tetramer are determined. The impact of this tetramer on the atom-trimer and dimer-dimer collisions is analyzed. The reliability of the three-body dimer-atom-atom model is studied.

Universality in fermionic dimer-dimer scattering

Arnoldas Deltuva

Collisions of two fermionic dimers near the unitary limit are studied using exact four-particle equations for transition operators in momentum space. Universal properties of dimer-dimer phase shifts and effective range expansion (ERE) parameters are determined. The inclusion of the fourth-order momentum term in the ERE significantly extends its validity to higher collision energies. The dimer-dimer scattering length and effective range are determined in the unitary limit as well as their corrections arising due to the finite range of the two-fermion interaction. These results are of considerably higher accuracy as compared to previous works, but confirm most of the previous results except for the lattice effective field theory calculations.

Momentum-space calculation of four-boson recombination

Arnoldas Deltuva

The system of four identical bosons with a large two-boson scattering length is described using momentum-space integral equations for the four-particle transition operators. The creation of Efimov trimers via ultracold four-boson recombination is studied. The universal behavior of the recombination rate is demonstrated.

Universal Four-Boson States in Ultracold Molecular Gases: Resonant Effects in Dimer-Dimer Collisions

José Paulo D'Incao, J. von Stecher, Chris H. Greene

We study the manifestations of universal four-body physics in ultracold dimer-dimer collisions. We show that resonant features associated with three-body Efimov physics and dimer-dimer scattering lengths are universally related. The emergence of universal four-boson states allows for the tunability of the dimer-dimer interaction, thus enabling the future study of ultracold molecular gases with both attractive and repulsive interactions. Moreover, our study of the interconversion between dimers and Efimov trimers shows that B2+B2-->B3+B rearrangement reactions can provide an efficient trimer formation mechanism. Our analysis of the temperature dependence of this reaction provides an interpretation of the available experimental data and sheds light on the possible experimental realization of rearrangement processes in ultracold gases.

Efimov resonances above four-boson threshold

Arnoldas Deltuva

Four-boson Efimov physics is well known in the negative energy regime but far less above the four-body breakup threshold. The part of this region with negative two-boson scattering length is studied solving rigorous four-particle scattering equations for transition operators in the momentum space. Moving away from the unitary limit, the Efimov tetramers evolve from unstable bound states into resonances. Their energies and widths are studied as functions of the two-boson scattering length; a universal behavior is established and given in a dimensionless representation. The Efimov tetramers have finite width in the whole regime; they broaden rapidly in the resonance regime but remain narrower than the associated trimer. The resonant behavior is most clearly seen in the four-particle recombination rate.
