Abstract

A complete classification is given for one-dimensional chains with nearest-neighbor interactions having two states in each site, for which a matrix product ground state exists. The Hamiltonians and their corresponding matrix product ground states are explicitly obtained.

Matrix Product Ground States for One-Dimensional Spin-1 Quantum Antiferromagnets

Andreas Klümper, Andreas Schadschneider, J. Zittartz

We have found the exact ground state for a large class of antiferromagnetic spin-1 models with nearest-neighbour interactions on a linear chain. All ground-state properties can be calculated. The ground state is determined as a matrix product of individual site states and has the properties of the Haldane scenario.

Product vacua with boundary states

Sven Bachmann, Bruno Nachtergaele

We introduce a family of quantum spin chains with nearest-neighbor interactions that can serve to clarify and refine the classification of gapped quantum phases of such systems. The gapped ground states of these models can be described as a product vacuum with a finite number of particles bound to the edges. The numbers of particles, ${n}_{L}$ and ${n}_{R}$, that can bind to the left and right edges of the finite chains serve as indices of the particular phase a model belongs to. All these ground states, which we call product vacua with boundary states (PVBS), can be described as matrix product states (MPS). We present a curve of gapped Hamiltonians connecting the Affleck-Kennedy-Lieb-Tasaki (AKLT) model to its representative PVBS model, which has indices ${n}_{L}={n}_{R}=1$. We also present examples with ${n}_{L}={n}_{R}=J$, for any integer $J\ensuremath{\ge}1$, that are related to a recently introduced class of $\text{SO}(2J+1)$-invariant quantum spin chains.

Exact renormalization in quantum spin chains

Hong-Hao Tu, Mikel Sanz

We introduce a real-space exact renormalization-group method to find exactly solvable quantum spin chains and their ground states. This method allows us to provide a complete list for exact solutions within SU(2) symmetric quantum spin chains with $S\ensuremath{\le}4$ and nearest-neighbor interactions, as well as examples with $S=5$. We obtain two classes of solutions. One of them converges to the fixed points of renormalization group and the ground states are matrix-product states. Another one does not have renormalization fixed points and the ground states are partially ferromagnetic states.

Matrix product eigenstates for one-dimensional stochastic models and quantum spin chains

Klaus Krebs, Sven Sandow

We show that all zero-energy eigenstates of an arbitrary m-state quantum spin chain Hamiltonian with nearest-neighbour interaction in the bulk and single site boundary terms, which can also describe the dynamics of stochastic models, can be written as matrix product states. This means that the weights in these states can be expressed as expectation values in a Fock representation of an algebra generated by 2m operators fulfilling quadratic relations which are defined by the Hamiltonian.

Entanglement of the Heisenberg chain with the next-nearest-neighbor interaction

Shi-Jian Gu, Haibin Li, You‐Quan Li +1 more

The features of the concurrences between the nearest-neighbors and that of the next-nearest-neighbors for the one-dimensional Heisenberg model with next-nearest-neighbor coupling $J$ are studied as functions of temperature and $J$. The two concurrences exhibit a different dependence on $J$ at the ground state, which could be interpreted from the point of view of the correlation functions. The threshold temperature at which the concurrence is zero and the temperature effect on the two concurrences for systems up to 12 sites are studied numerically.

Ground State of the Extended One-Dimensional Hubbard Model: A Green's Function Monte Carlo Algorithm

Michael A. Lee, Kazi A. Motakabbir, Kevin E. Schmidt

A Monte Carlo method for obtaining exact ground-state properties of a class of Hubbard Hamiltonians is described. Results are presented for two special cases, nearest-neighbor Coulomb and on-site interactions, where previous exact results are known. The straightforward applicability of the method to a wider variety of interactions is demonstrated.
