Entanglement Entropy for Disjoint Subsystems in XX Spin Chain

Abstract

Fisher-Hartwig formula has been successful applied to describe the von Neumann and Rényi entropies of a block of spins in the ground state of XX spin chain. It was based on a determinant representation. In this paper, we generalize the free fermion method to obtain an exact formulation for the entropy of any finite subsystem in XX spin chain. Based on this, we derive a determinant representation of the entropy of multiple disjoint intervals in the ground state of $XX$ model.

Entanglement entropy of two disjoint intervals separated by one spin in a chain of free fermion*

L Brightmore, G P Gehér, Alexander Rudol'fovich Its +4 more

Abstract We calculate the entanglement entropy of a non-contiguous subsystem of a chain of free fermions. The starting point is a formula suggested by Jin and Korepin, arXiv: 1104.1004 , for the reduced density of states of two disjoint intervals with lattice sites P = {1, 2, …, m} ∪ {2m + 1, 2m + 2, …, 3m}, which applies to this model. As a first step in the asymptotic analysis of this system, we consider its simplification to two disjoint intervals separated just by one site, and we rigorously calculate the mutual information between these two blocks and the rest of the chain. In order to compute the entropy we need to study the asymptotic behaviour of an inverse Toeplitz matrix with Fisher–Hartwig symbol using the the Riemann–Hilbert method.

The Fisher-Hartwig Formula and Generalized Entropies in XY Spin Chain

Alexander Rudol'fovich Its, V. E. Korepin

Toeplitz matrices have applications to different problems of statistical mechanics. Recently they were used for calculation of entanglement entropy in spin chains. We use the Fisher-Hartwig formula to calculate entanglement entropy of large block of spins in the ground state of XY spin chain. We also calculate Renyi entropy and prove that the spectrum of the density matrix of a block of spins is exact geometric sequence [also different eigenvalues are degenerated differently].

New insights into the entanglement of disjoint blocks

Maurizio Fagotti

We study the entanglement of two disjoint blocks in spin- chains obtained by merging solvable models, such as XX and quantum Ising models. We focus on the universal quantities that can be extracted from the Rényi entropies S α . The most important information is encoded in some functions denoted by F α . We compute F 2 and we show that F α − 1 and F v . N . , corresponding to the von Neumann entropy, can be negative, in contrast to what observed in all models examined so far. An exact relation between the entanglement of disjoint subsystems in the XX model and that in a chain embodying two quantum Ising models is a by-product of our investigations.

Entanglement entropy of two disjoint blocks inXYchains

Maurizio Fagotti, Pasquale Calabrese

We study the Rényi entanglement entropies of two disjoint intervals in XY chains. We exploit the exact solution of the model in terms of free Majorana fermions and we show how to construct the reduced density matrix in the spin variables by taking the Jordan–Wigner string between the two blocks properly into account. From this we can evaluate any Rényi entropy of finite integer order. We study in detail critical XX and Ising chains and we show that the asymptotic results for large blocks agree with recent conformal field theory predictions if corrections to the scaling are included in the analysis correctly. We also report results for the gapped phase and after a quantum quench.

Rényi entanglement entropy in fermionic chains

Filiberto Ares, José G. Esteve, Fernando Falceto

In this paper we discuss the asymptotic behavior of the entanglement entropy for a fragment of a fermionic chain in an excited state. We first study the case in which the subsystem consists of a single interval. We review the analytical tools that make the computation feasible, derived from the asymptotics of the determinant of Toeplitz matrices, we also compare with the numerical results and give a physical interpretation of them. Next we move to the case in which the fragment is made of several disjoint intervals. We compute numerically the entropy and, based on these results, we establish a conjecture on the determinant of a submatrix of a Toeplitz matrix that leads to a general expression for the entropy in the multi-interval case. We check that our results agree with those derived from conformal field theory when the latter are available.

Entanglement entropy of two disjoint intervals and spin structures in interacting chains in and out of equilibrium

Vanja Marić, Saverio Bocini, Maurizio Fagotti

A bstract We take the paradigm of interacting spin chains, the Heisenberg spin- $$ \frac{1}{2} $$ 1 2 XXZ model, as a reference system and consider interacting models that are related to it by Jordan-Wigner transformations and restrictions to sub-chains. An example is the fermionic analogue of the gapless XXZ Hamiltonian, which, in a continuum scaling limit, is described by the massless Thirring model. We work out the Rényi- α entropies of disjoint blocks in the ground state and extract the universal scaling functions describing the Rényi- α tripartite information in the limit of infinite lengths. We consider also the von Neumann entropy, but only in the limit of large distance. We show how to use the entropies of spin blocks to unveil the spin structures of the underlying massless Thirring model. Finally, we speculate about the tripartite information after global quenches and conjecture its asymptotic behaviour in the limit of infinite time and small quench. The resulting conjecture for the “residual tripartite information”, which corresponds to the limit in which the intervals’ lengths are infinitely larger than their (large) distance, supports the claim of universality recently made studying noninteracting spin chains. Our mild assumptions imply that the residual tripartite information after a small quench of the anisotropy in the gapless phase of XXZ is equal to − log 2.
