Asymptotic entanglement and Lindblad dynamics: a perturbative approach

Abstract

We consider an open bipartite quantum system with dissipative Lindblad type dynamics. In order to study the entanglement of the stationary states, we develop a perturbative approach and apply it to the physically significant case when a purely dissipative perturbation is added to the unperturbed generator which by itself would produce reversible unitary dynamics.

Entanglement and entropy rates in open quantum systems

Fabio Benatti, Alexandra M Liguori-Schremp, Giacomo Paluzzano

We study a recent conjecture about the behavior of the quantum relative entropy compared to the relative entropy of entanglement in open bipartite systems. The conjecture states that, under a dissipative time evolution, the positive rate of change of the relative entropy will always be larger than that of the relative entropy of entanglement. After explicitly solving a 2-qubit master equation of Lindblad type with separable and entangled stationary states, we show that the conjecture can be violated for initial states with an entangled asymptotic state, while it appears to be confirmed when the asymptotic states are separable.

QUANTUM FOKKER-PLANCK MODELS: THE LINDBLAD AND WIGNER APPROACHES

Anton Arnold, Franco Fagnola, Lukas Neumann

In this article we try to bridge the gap between the quantum dynamical semigroup and Wigner function approaches to quantum open systems. In particular we study stationary states and the long time asymptotics for the quantum Fokker-Planck equation. Our new results apply to open quantum systems in a harmonic confinement potential, perturbed by a (large) sub-quadratic term.

Entanglement in open quantum dynamics

Аурелиан Исар

In the framework of the theory of open systems based on completely positive quantum dynamical semigroups, we give a description of the continuousvariable entanglement for a system consisting of two independent harmonic oscillators interacting with a general environment.Using Peres-Simon necessary and sufficient criterion for separability of two-mode Gaussian states, we describe the generation and evolution of entanglement in terms of the covariance matrix for an arbitrary Gaussian input state. For some values of diffusion and dissipation coefficients describing the environment, the state keeps for all times its initial type: separable or entangled. In other cases, entanglement generation or entanglement collapse (entanglement sudden death) take place or even a periodic collapse and revival of entanglement. We show that for certain classes of environments the initial state evolves asymptotically to an entangled equilibrium bipartite state, while for other values of the coefficients describing the environment, the asymptotic state is separable. We calculate also the logarithmic negativity characterizing the degree of entanglement of the asymptotic state.

Approximate Reduced Lindblad Dynamics via Algebraic and Adiabatic Methods

Tommaso Grigoletto, Alain Sarlette, Francesco Ticozzi +1 more

We present an algebraic framework for approximate model reduction of Markovian open quantum dynamics that guarantees complete positivity and trace preservation by construction. First, we show that projecting a Lindblad generator on its center manifold -- the space spanned by eigenoperators with purely imaginary eigenvalue -- yields an asymptotically exact reduced quantum dynamical semigroup whose dynamics is unitary, with exponentially decaying transient error controlled by the generator's spectral gap. Second, for analytic perturbations of a Lindblad generator with a tractable center manifold, we propose a perturbative reduction that keeps the reduced space fixed at the unperturbed center manifold. The resulting generator is shown to remain a valid Lindbladian; explicit finite-time error bounds that quantify leakage from the unperturbed center sector are provided. We further clarify the connection to adiabatic elimination methods, by both showing how the algebraic reduction can be directly related to a first-order adiabatic-elimination and by providing sufficient conditions under which the latter method can be applied while preserving complete positivity. We showcase the usefulness of our techniques in dissipative many-body quantum systems exhibiting non-stationary long-time dynamics.

Entanglement rates for bipartite open systems

Anna Vershynina

We provide an upper bound on the maximal rate at which irreversible quantum dynamics can generate entanglement in a bipartite system. The generator of irreversible dynamics consists of a Hamiltonian and dissipative terms in Lindblad form. The relative entropy of entanglement is chosen as a measure of entanglement in an ancilla-free system. We provide an upper bound on the entangling rate which has a logarithmic dependence on a dimension of a smaller system in a bipartite cut. We also investigate the rate of change of quantum mutual information in an ancilla-assisted system and provide an upper bound independent of dimension of ancillas.
