Abstract

We present certain classical continuum long wave-length limits of prototype integrable quantum spin chains, and define the corresponding construction of classical continuum Lax operators. We also provide two specific examples, i.e. the isotropic and anisotropic Heisenberg models.

Complete integrability for a discrete Heisenberg chain

N. Papanicolaou

Haldane (1982) conjectured that a simple generalisation of the Heisenberg spin chain leads to a completely integrable classical system without invoking the usual continuum approximation. Complete integrability is established for the generalised discrete chain by exhibiting a Lax pair and an infinite set of non-local conservation laws. The associated inverse scattering problem is also formulated providing explicit soliton solutions.

On the integrability aspects of the one-dimensional classical continuum isotropic biquadratic Heisenberg spin chain

Kuppuswamy Porsezian, M. Daniel, M. Lakshmanan

The integrability aspects of a classical one-dimensional continuum isotropic biquadratic Heisenberg spin chain in its continuum limit up to order [O(a4)] in the lattice parameter ‘‘a’’ are studied. Through a differential geometric approach, the dynamical equation for the spin chain is expressed in the form of a higher-order generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation (GNLSE). An integrable biquadratic chain that is a deformation of the lower-order continuum isotropic spin chain, is identified by carrying out a Painlevé singularity structure analysis on the GNLSE (also through gauge analysis) and its properties are discussed briefly. For the nonintegrable chain, the perturbed soliton solution is obtained through a multiple scale analysis.

Lax pair formulation for the one-dimensional HeisenbergXXZopen chain

Huan-Qiang Zhou

The Lax pair formulation is presented for completely integrable quantum lattice spin open chains. Specifically, the Lax pair for the one-dimensional Heisenberg XXZ open chain is explicitly constructed. Our construction provides an alternative and direct demonstration of the quantum integrability of the system.

QUANTUM INTEGRALS OF MOTION FOR THE HEISENBERG SPIN CHAIN

Marek Grabowski, Pierre Mathieu

An explicit expression for all the quantum integrals of motion for the isotropic Heisenberg s=1/2 spin chain is presented. The conserved quantities are expressed in terms of a sum over simple polynomials in spin variables. This construction is direct and independent of the transfer matrix formalism. Continuum limits of these integrals in both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic sectors are briefly discussed.
