Localized tendency for the superfluid and Mott insulator state in the array of dissipative cavities

Abstract

The features of superfluid-Mott insulator phase transition in the array of dissipative cavities is analyzed. Employing a kind of quasi-boson and a mean-filed approach, we show analytically how dissipation and decoherence influence the critical behaviors and the time evolution of the system. We find that there is a localized tendency, which could lead to the break of superfluidity for a superfluid state and suppress the appearance of the long-range order form a Mott state. Eventually, a collection of mixture states localized on each site will arise.

Quantum phase transition in an array of coupled dissipative cavities

Ke Liu, Lei Tan, Chun-Hai Lv +1 more

We study the features of superfluid and Mott-insulator states in a two-dimensional array of cavities with a two-level atom embedded in each cavity which is strongly coupled to the cavity field and immersed in a bosonic bath. Employing a different quasiboson approach, we show analytically how the dissipation and decoherence influence the quantum phase transitions from two aspects and find a localized tendency. For the superfluid state, a dynamical instability will lead to a sweeping to a localized state of photons. For the Mott-insulator state, a dissipation-induced fluctuation will suppress the restoring of long-range phase coherence driven by interaction.

Quantum phase transition in arrays of dissipative cavities with two-photon process

Xiong Fang, Feng Xiao-Qiang, Lei Tan

In this paper, we employ a new kind of quasi-boson approach and the mean field theory to study analytically the Hamiltonian of an array of cavities with a three-level atom embedded in each cavity in the process of two-photon resonant transition under the influence of a bosonic bath. The superfluid order parameter of the system is obtained analytically and then analyzed numerically to investigate the effects of dissipation on the quantum phase transition from the superfluid to the Mott-insulator phase. It is shown that when the two-photon resonance is achieved one can have the superfluid phase at (ZJ/)= (ZJ/)c' 0.34 in the related ideal case. Furthermore, the system while in the two-photon resonant process has a larger dissipation rate as compared with that in the one-photon resonant process, thus leading to the suppression of the long-range coherence time and enhancement of the critical hopping rate for restoring coherence.

Superfluid Mott-insulator quantum phase transition in an open cavity optomagnonic system

Zhuang-Zhuang Meng, Lei Liu, Lei Tan

Abstract We investigated the superfluid Mott-insulator phase transition within an open coupled cavity optomagnonic array system. Based on the quasibosonic approach and employing perturbation approximation and mean-field theory, we obtain the time-dependent analytical superfluid order parameter. Our analysis revealed that dissipation induces decoherence within the system, while a strong magnon-cavity coupling enhances coherence significantly. Moreover, we explored the mechanisms by which increasing the magnon-cavity coupling strength drives the system towards the superfluid phase. The work holds significant guidance for the study of superfluidMott insulator phase transition under dissipative conditions, and providing a reliable reference for experimental implementation in open quantum systems.

Signatures of the superfluid-insulator phase transition in laser-driven dissipative nonlinear cavity arrays

Andrea Tomadin, Vittorio Giovannetti, Rosario Fazio +4 more

We analyze the nonequilibrium dynamics of a gas of interacting photons in an array of coupled dissipative nonlinear cavities when driven by a pulsed external coherent field. Using a mean-field approach, we show that the response of the system is strongly sensitive to the underlying (equilibrium) quantum phase transition from a Mott insulator to a superfluid state at commensurate filling. We find that the coherence of the cavity emission after a quantum quench can be used to determine the phase diagram of an optical many-body system even in the presence of dissipation.

Phase Diagram of Mixtures of Ultracold Bosons in Optical Lattice

Sergii Anufriiev, T. A. Zaleski

We study a behaviour of mixture of two species of ultracold bosons trapped in optical lattice.Using mean-field approximation, we determine the phase diagram of the system for wide range of parameters. We observe that each of the groups of atoms can condense into superfluid state or localize and form the Mott insulator, which yields that the whole system is either superfluid, the Mott insulator, or a mixed state. It appears that introduction of interaction between different kinds of atoms can strongly renormalise the phase diagram. It can alter the critical behaviour modifying multi-criticality of crossing points and order of phase transitions between mixed and superfluid states.

Superfluid–Mott insulator quantum phase transition in hybrid cavity optomechanical arrays

Jin-Lou Ma, Lei Tan, Qing Li +2 more

Abstract A two-dimensional hybrid cavity optomechanical array formed by an optomechanical cavity embedded with a two-level atom in each site is introduced to discuss the superfluid–Mott insulator quantum phase transition of light. On account of the optomechanical coupling effects stemmed from the coupled movable oscillator, the energy spectrum of the system changes, and an effective on-site repulsive interaction is reformed by modulating the optomechanically controlled parameters. By adjusting the detuning, an intersection between different critical chemical potentials can be found together with a disappearance of certain Mott lobes physically. The pronounced optomechanical coupling strength is in favor of the Mott insulator phase due to the enhanced effective on-site interactions. Additionally, the Kerr-nonlinearity reduces the average excitation of the high Mott insulator state and diminishes the superfluid regime. The results obtained here provide a novel image for characterizing the quantum phase transitions in optomechanical array systems, which will offer valuable insight for quantum simulations.
