Abstract

We provide a generalization of the reduction and Robertson positive maps in matrix algebras. They give rise to a new class of optimal entanglement witnesses. Their structural physical approximation is analyzed. As a byproduct we provide new examples of PPT (positive partial transpose) entangled states.

Constructing optimal entanglement witnesses. II. Witnessing entanglement in 4N×4N systems

Dariusz Chruściński, Justyna Pytel

We provide a class of optimal nondecomposable entanglement witnesses for $4N\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}4N$ composite quantum systems or, equivalently, another construction of nondecomposable positive maps in the algebra of $4N\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}4N$ complex matrices. This construction provides natural generalization of the Robertson map. It is shown that their structural physical approximations give rise to entanglement breaking channels.

Recurrent construction of optimal entanglement witnesses for 2N -qubit systems

Justyna P. Zwolak, Dariusz Chruściński

We provide a recurrent construction of entanglement witnesses for a bipartite systems living in a Hilbert space corresponding to $2N$ qubits ($N$ qubits in each subsystem). Our construction provides a method of generalization of the Robertson map that naturally meshes with $2N$-qubit systems, i.e., its structure respects the ${2}^{2N}$ growth of the state space. We prove that for $N>1$ these witnesses are indecomposable and optimal. As a byproduct we provide a family of PPT (Positive Partial Transpose) entangled states.

Constructing optimal entanglement witnesses

Dariusz Chruściński, Justyna Pytel, Gniewomir Sarbicki

We provide a class of indecomposable entanglement witnesses. In $4\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}4$ case, it reproduces the well-known Breuer-Hall witness. We prove that these witnesses are optimal and atomic, i.e., they are able to detect the ``weakest'' quantum entanglement encoded into states with positive partial transposition. Equivalently, we provide a construction of indecomposable atomic maps in the algebra of $2k\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}2k$ complex matrices. It is shown that their structural physical approximations give rise to entanglement breaking channels. This result supports recent conjecture by Korbicz et al. [Phys. Rev. A 78, 062105 (2008)].

Optimization of entanglement witnesses

An entanglement witness (EW) is an operator that allows the detection of entangled states. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for such operators to be optimal, i.e., to detect entangled states in an optimal way. We show how to optimize general EW, and then we particularize our results to the nondecomposable ones; the latter are those that can detect positive partial transpose entangled states (PPTES's). We also present a method to systematically construct and optimize this last class of operators based on the existence of ``edge'' PPTES's, i.e., states that violate the range separability criterion [Phys. Lett. A 232, 333 (1997)] in an extreme manner. This method also permits a systematic construction of nondecomposable positive maps (PM's). Our results lead to a sufficient condition for entanglement in terms of nondecomposable EW's and PM's. Finally, we illustrate our results by constructing optimal EW acting on $H={C}^{2}\ensuremath{\bigotimes}{C}^{4}.$ The corresponding PM's constitute examples of PM's with minimal ``qubit'' domains, or---equivalently---minimal Hermitian conjugate codomains.

Entanglement Witnesses Arising from Exposed Positive Linear Maps

Kil-Chan Ha, Seung-Hyeok Kye

We consider entanglement witnesses arising from positive linear maps which generate exposed extremal rays. We show that every entangled state can be detected by one of these witnesses, and this witness detects a unique set of entangled states among those. Therefore, they provide a minimal set of witnesses to detect any kind of entanglement in a sense. Furthermore, if those maps are indecomposable then they detect large classes of entangled states with positive partial transposes which have nonempty relative interiors in the cone generated by all PPT states. We also provide a one-parameter family of indecomposable positive linear maps which generate exposed extremal rays. This gives the first examples of such maps in three-dimensional matrix algebra.
