Arbitrary Finite Dimensional Generalization of Quantum Coin-Flipping Game

Fasheng Cao

Abstract Two players of coin-flipping game randomly choose one of two strategies, flipping over or not. Meyer quantized states of the game to be described instead by density matrices of the two-dimensional Hilbert space. In order to obtain and unify generation of the two players coin-flipping game with more than two strategies, we renew the need for equivalently describing Meyer’s PQ coin-flipping game by representing player’s strategies as elements of permutation groups. Expanding the dimension of quantum vector to arbitrary N-dimension in the coin-flipping game model, we generalize Meyer’s PQ coin-flipping game to PQ arbitrary finite strategies game. Owing to the quantum Fourier transform, quantum contrivance of Q has a winning strategy in PQ coin-flipping game with arbitrary finite strategies. Even though the player Q has a small probability of winning his opponent in the classical PQ coin-flipping game with arbitrary finite strategies, he can win his opponent who uses classical mixed strategies by his quantum strategies. Furthermore, we realize the winning quantum strategies of quantum player Q of PQ coin-flipping game with arbitrary finite strategies in macro world.

A QUANTUM WALK WITH A DELOCALIZED INITIAL STATE: CONTRIBUTION FROM A COIN-FLIP OPERATOR

Takuya Machida

A unit evolution step of discrete-time quantum walks (QWs) is determined by both a coin-flip operator and a position-shift operator. The behavior of quantum walkers after many steps delicately depends on the coin-flip operator and an initial condition of the walk. To get the behavior, a lot of long-time limit distributions for the QWs starting with a localized initial state have been derived. In this paper, we compute limit distributions of a 2-state QW with a delocalized initial state, not a localized initial state, and discuss how the walker depends on the coin-flip operator. The initial state induced from the Fourier series expansion, which is called the (α, β) delocalized initial state in this paper, provides different limit density functions from the ones of the quantum walk with a localized initial state.

Quantum quincunx for walk on circles in phase space with indirect coin flip

Peng Xue, Barry C. Sanders

The quincunx, or Galton board, has a long history as a tool for demonstrating and investigating random walk processes, but a quantum quincunx (QQ) for demonstrating a coined quantum walk (QW) is yet to be realized experimentally. We propose a variant of the QQ in cavity quantum electrodynamics, designed to eliminate the onerous requirement of directly flipping the coin. Instead, we propose driving the cavity in such a way that cavity field displacements are minimized and the coin is effectively flipped via this indirect process. An effect of this indirect flipping is that the walker's location is no longer confined to a single circle in the planar phase space, but we show that the phase distribution nonetheless shows quadratic enhancement of phase diffusion for the quantum versus classical walk despite this small complication. Thus our scheme leads to coined QW behaviour in cavity quantum electrodynamics without the need to flip the coin directly.
