On the quantum master equation for Bogoliubov-BCS quasiparticles

Abstract

The quantum master equation is introduced for the density matrix representing Bogoliubov-BCS quasiparticles. A constraint to relate the loss and gain factors is taken into account to preserve the form of the density matrix. Such an equation can be reduced to the semiclassical equation, and can be extended for the coexistence of different order parameters.

On the quantum master equation for fermions

C. F. Huang, Keh‐Ning Huang

A quantum master equation is obtained for identical fermions by including a relaxation term in addition to the mean-field Hamiltonian. [Huang C F and Huang K N 2004 Chinese J. Phys. ${\bf 42}$ 221; Gebauer R and Car R 2004 Phys. Rev. B ${\bf 70}$ 125324] It is proven in this paper that both the positivity and Pauli's exclusion principle are preserved under this equation when there exists an upper bound for the transition rate. Such an equation can be generalized to model BCS-type quasiparticles, and is reduced to a Markoff master equation of Lindblad form in the low-density limit with respect to particles or holes.

Lindblad master equation approach to superconductivity in open quantum systems

Daniel S. Kosov, Tomaž Prosen, Bojan Žunkovič

We consider an open quantum Fermi-system which consists of a single degenerate level with pairing interactions embedded into a superconducting bath. The time evolution of the reduced density matrix for the system is given by Linblad master equation, where the dissipators describe exchange of Bogoliubov quasiparticles with the bath. We obtain fixed points of the time evolution equation for the covariance matrix and study their stability by analyzing full dynamics of the order parameter.

Condensation ofNbosons IV: a simplified Bogoliubov master equation analysis of fluctuations in an interacting Bose gas

Marlan O. Scully, Anatoly A. Svidzinsky

A non-equilibrium master equation analysis for N interacting bosons, with Bogoliubov quasiparticles as the reservoir is presented. The analysis is based on a simplified Hamiltonian. The steady state solution yields the equilibrium density matrix. The results are in good agreement with and extend our previous rigorous canonical ensemble equilibrium statistical treatment leading to a quantum theory of the atom laser.

Note on Functional Derivation of Master Equations

Hans-Thomas Elze

Master equations describe the quantum dynamics of open systems interacting with an environment. They play an increasingly important role in understanding the emergence of semiclassical behavior and the generation of entropy, both being related to quantum decoherence. Presently we derive the exact master equation for a homogeneous scalar Higgs or inflaton like field coupled to an environment field represented by an infinite set of harmonic oscillators. Our aim is to demonstrate a derivation directly from the path integral representation of the density matrix propagator. Applications and generalizations of this result are discussed.

Condensation of N bosons: Microscopic approach to fluctuations in an interacting Bose gas

Anatoly A. Svidzinsky, Marlan O. Scully

We present a microscopic derivation of the master equation for the condensate density matrix for an interacting Bogoliubov-Bose gas of N atoms. We choose the interaction Hamiltonian in a special way that substantially simplifies the master equation, yielding no coupling between diagonal and off-diagonal terms. The present formulation allows us to solve the problem analytically in a steady state and obtain the expression for the distribution function and equilibrium condensate fluctuations. For the first two central moments, our results are equivalent to those obtained in the canonical-ensemble quasiparticle formalism [V. V. Kocharovsky, Vl. V. Kocharovsky, and M. O. Scully, Phys. Rev. Lett. 84, 2306 (2000); Phys. Rev. A 61, 053606 (2000)], in the low-temperature range where these papers are valid, but also give an accurate description at high temperatures. The present analysis for an interacting Bose gas is as accurate as the master equation approach of Kocharovsky et al. [Phys. Rev. A 61, 023609 (2000)] is for an ideal gas.

Unified GKLS quantum master equation beyond the secular approximation

Anton Sergeevich Trushechkin

Derivation of a quantum master equation for a system weakly coupled to a bath which takes into account non-secular effects, but, nevertheless, has the mathematically correct Gorini-Kossakowski-Lindblad-Sudarshan (GKLS) form (in particular, preserves positivity of the density operator) and also satisfies the standard thermodynamic properties is a known long-standing problem in theory of open quantum systems. The non-secular terms are important when some energy levels of the system or their differences (Bohr frequencies) are nearly degenerate. We provide a fully rigorous derivation of such equation based on a formalization of the weak-coupling limit for the general case.
