Strong-coupling expansions for the attractive Holstein and Hubbard models

James K. Freericks

A strong-coupling expansion for the Holstein (electron-phonon) model is carried out through fourth order. In the large-frequency limit the expansion agrees with known results for the attractive Hubbard model. Mean-field theory is employed to determine transition temperatures of the effective (pseudospin) Hamiltonian and the results are compared with recent Monte Carlo simulations of these models in infinite dimensions.

Phases of Two-Dimensional Heisenberg Spin Systems from Strong-Coupling Expansions

Chris J. Hamer, John B. Kogut, Leonard Susskind

A quantum-mechanical Hamiltonian formulation of lattice spin systems is used to search for phase transitions in the O(2), O(3), and O(4) Heisenberg models in two dimensions. Strong-coupling expansions which have been calculated through eighth order indicate a phase transition at nonzero coupling for the O(2) model, but the non-Abelian models are predicted to exist only in the strong-coupling phase.

Unveiling coherent dynamics in non-Markovian open quantum systems: Exact expression and recursive perturbation expansion

Alessandra Colla, Heinz‐Peter Breuer, Giulio Gasbarri

We introduce a systematic framework to derive the effective Hamiltonian governing the coherent dynamics of non-Markovian open quantum systems. By applying the minimal dissipation principle, we uniquely isolate the coherent contribution to the time-local generator of the reduced dynamics. We derive a general expression for the effective Hamiltonian and develop a recursive perturbative expansion that expresses it in terms of system-bath interaction terms and bath correlation functions. This expansion provides a systematic tool for analyzing energy renormalization effects across different coupling regimes. Applying our framework to paradigmatic spin systems, we reveal how environmental correlations influence energy shifts and eigenbasis rotations, offering insights into strong-coupling effects and non-Markovian quantum thermodynamics.
