Abstract

We present a continuous-variable quantum key distribution protocol combining a continuous but slightly non-Gaussian modulation together with a efficient reverse reconciliation scheme. We establish the security of this protocol against collective attacks which correspond to a linear quantum channel. In particular, all Gaussian attacks are considered in our framework. We show that this protocol outperforms all known practical protocols, even taking into account finite size effects.

Continuous-variable quantum-key-distribution protocols with a non-Gaussian modulation

Anthony Leverrier, Philippe Grangier

In this paper, we consider continuous-variable quantum-key-distribution (QKD) protocols which use non-Gaussian modulations. These specific modulation schemes are compatible with very efficient error-correction procedures, hence allowing the protocols to outperform previous protocols in terms of achievable range. In their simplest implementation, these protocols are secure for any linear quantum channels (hence against Gaussian attacks). We also show how the use of decoy states makes the protocols secure against arbitrary collective attacks, which implies their unconditional security in the asymptotic limit.

Continuous-variable Quantum Key Distribution protocols with a discrete modulation

Anthony Leverrier, Philippe Grangier

In this paper, we consider continuous-variable quantum key distribution with a discrete modulation, either binary or quaternary. We establish the security of these protocols against the class of collective attacks that induce a linear quantum channel. In particular, all Gaussian attacks are taken into account, as well as linear attacks which add a non-Gaussian noise. We give lower bounds for the secret key rate using extremality properties of Gaussian states.

Unconditional Security Proof of Long-Distance Continuous-Variable Quantum Key Distribution with Discrete Modulation

Anthony Leverrier, Philippe Grangier

We present a continuous-variable quantum key distribution protocol combining a discrete modulation and reverse reconciliation. This protocol is proven unconditionally secure and allows the distribution of secret keys over long distances, thanks to a reverse reconciliation scheme efficient at very low signal-to-noise ratio.

Long-distance continuous-variable quantum key distribution with a Gaussian modulation

Paul Jouguet, Sébastien Kunz-Jacques, Anthony Leverrier

We designed high-efficiency error correcting codes allowing us to extract an errorless secret key in a continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CVQKD) protocol using a Gaussian modulation of coherent states and a homodyne detection. These codes are available for a wide range of signal-to-noise ratios on an additive white Gaussian noise channel with a binary modulation and can be combined with a multidimensional reconciliation method proven secure against arbitrary collective attacks. This improved reconciliation procedure considerably extends the secure range of a CVQKD with a Gaussian modulation, giving a secret key rate of about ${10}^{\ensuremath{-}3}$ bit per pulse at a distance of 120 km for reasonable physical parameters.

Long-distance continuous-variable measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution with discrete modulation

Hongxin Ma, Peng Huang, Dongyun Bai +4 more

We propose a long-distance continuous-variable measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution (CV-MDI-QKD) protocol with discrete modulation. This kind of discrete-modulated scheme has good compatibility with efficient error correction code, which leads to higher reconciliation efficiency even at low signal-to-noise ratio. Security analysis shows that the proposed protocol is secure against arbitrary collective attacks in the asymptotic limit with the proper use of decoy states. With the use of discrete modulation, the proposed CV-MDI-QKD protocol has simpler implementation and outperforms previous protocols in terms of achievable maximal transmission distance, which precisely solved the bottleneck of the original Gaussian-modulated CV-MDI-QKD protocol.

Quantum key distribution using basis encoding of Gaussian-modulated coherent states

Peng Huang, Jingzheng Huang, Zheshen Zhang +1 more

The continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CVQKD) has been demonstrated to be available in practical secure quantum cryptography. However, its performance is restricted strongly by the channel excess noise and the reconciliation efficiency. In this paper, we present a quantum key distribution (QKD) protocol by encoding the secret keys on the random choices of two measurement bases: the conjugate quadratures $X$ and $P$. The employed encoding method can dramatically weaken the effects of channel excess noise and reconciliation efficiency on the performance of the QKD protocol. Subsequently, the proposed scheme exhibits the capability to tolerate much higher excess noise and enables us to reach a much longer secure transmission distance even at lower reconciliation efficiency. The proposal can work alternatively to strengthen significantly the performance of the known Gaussian-modulated CVQKD protocol and serve as a multiplier for practical secure quantum cryptography with continuous variables.
