We utilize a superconducting qubit processor to experimentally probe non-Markovian dynamics of an entangled qubit pair. We prepare an entangled state between two qubits and monitor the evolution of entanglement over time as one of the qubits interacts with a small quantum environment consisting of an auxiliary transmon qubit coupled to its readout cavity. We observe the collapse and revival of the entanglement as a signature of quantum memory effects in the environment. We then engineer the non-Markovianity of the environment by populating its readout cavity with thermal photons to show a transition from non-Markovian to Markovian dynamics, ultimately reaching a regime where the quantum Zeno effect creates a decoherence-free subspace that effectively stabilizes the entanglement between the qubits.

Entanglement decoherence of coupled superconductor qubits entangled states in non-Markovian environment

Yinghua Ji, Lin Xu

The evolution of entangled decoherence of coupling superconducting qubits in non-Markovian environment is investigated in detail using concurrence function. The results show that, for coupling superconducting qubit under different entangled initial states, because of the role of memory feedback due to environmental effect, the entanglement of coupling superconducting qubits under a thermal bath always tends to zero monotonically.Further results also showed that, the sudden death of entanglement will soon occur in non-Markovian process, stronger the dissipation, faster the death of entanglement. But in Markovian process,it tends to death of entanglement slowly.

Thermodynamic fingerprints of non-Markovianity in a system of coupled superconducting qubits

The exploitation and characterization of memory effects arising from the interaction between system and environment is a key prerequisite for quantum reservoir engineering beyond the standard Markovian limit. In this paper we investigate a prototype of non-Markovian dynamics experimentally implementable with superconducting qubits. We rigorously quantify non-Markovianity, highlighting the effects of the environmental temperature on the Markovian to non-Markovian crossover. We investigate how memory effects influence, and specifically suppress, the ability to perform work on the driven qubit. We show that the average work performed on the qubit can be used as a diagnostic tool to detect the presence or absence of memory effects.
