Abstract

In this paper, we propose an algorithm to construct coherent states for an exactly solvable position dependent mass Schrödinger equation. We use point canonical transformation method and obtain ground state eigenfunction of the position dependent mass Schrödinger equation. We fix the ladder operators in the deformed form and obtain explicit expression of the deformed superpotential in terms of mass distribution and its derivative. We also prove that these deformed operators lead to minimum uncertainty relations. Further, we illustrate our algorithm with two examples, in which the coherent states given for the second example are new.

Hamiltonians with position-dependent mass, deformations and supersymmetry

A new method for generating exactly solvable Schrödinger equations with a position-dependent mass is proposed. It is based on a relation with some deformed Schrödinger equations, which can be dealt with by using a supersymmetric quantum mechanical approach combined with a deformed shape-invariance condition. The solvability of the latter is shown to impose the form of both the deformed superpotential and the position-dependent mass. The conditions for the existence of bound states are determined. A lot of examples are provided and the corresponding bound-state spectrum and wavefunctions are reviewed.

Exactly solvable effective mass Schrödinger equation with coulomb‐like potential

C. Pacheco‐García, Jesús García‐Ravelo, J. Morales +1 more

Abstract Exactly solvable Schrödinger equation (SE) with a position‐dependent mass distribution allowing Morse‐like eigenvalues is presented. For this, the position‐dependent mass Schrödinger equation is transformed into a standard SE, with constant mass, by means of the point canonical transformation scheme. In that method, the choice of potential for the position‐dependent mass Schrödinger equation allows us to obtain the transformation that should be used to find the exactly solvable SE. As a useful application of the proposal, the equivalent of the Witten superpotential is chosen to be constant to find the position‐dependent mass distribution and the exactly solvable potential V(m(x)) allowing Morse‐type energy spectra. This V(m(x)) is shown to have a Coulomb potential structure and can be useful in the study of the electronic properties of materials in which the carrier effective mass depends on the position. Moreover, the worked example, the approach is general and can be applied in the search of new potentials suitable on the study of quantum chemical systems. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Exactly solvable Schrödinger equations with a position‐dependent mass: Null potential

José Juan Peña, Gerardo Ovando, J. Morales +2 more

Abstract In this work, an alternative approach for finding exact solutions of Schrödinger equations with a position‐dependent mass is presented. Essentially, the method consists in transforming the position‐dependent mass Schrödinger equation into a standard constant mass Schrödinger equation. The constant mass equation is formulated in terms of a new variable and includes, as effective potential, a term related to the position‐dependent mass and another term connected with the original potential. For exactly solvable potentials, our proposal leads to a Riccati equation for an equivalent Witten superpotential, which means that this kind of problems can be studied within the quantum supersymmetric framework with the aim to find the explicit solutions and the energy spectra. To show the usefulness of the proposed approach, we consider the particular case of exactly solvable Schrödinger equations for different position‐dependent mass situations in a null potential. However, the method can directly be applied to other effective potentials as well as to find isospectral potentials for specific position‐dependent mass distributions. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Point Canonical Transformation versus Deformed Shape Invariance for Position-Dependent Mass Schrödinger Equations

C. Quesne

On using the known equivalence between the presence of a position-dependent mass (PDM) in the Schrödinger equation and a deformation of the canonical commutation relations, a method based on deformed shape invariance has recently been devised for generating pairs of potential and PDM for which the Schrödinger equation is exactly solvable. This approach has provided the bound-state energy spectrum, as well as the ground-state and the first few excited-state wavefunctions. The general wavefunctions have however remained unknown in explicit form because for their determination one would need the solutions of a rather tricky differential-difference equation. Here we show that solving this equation may be avoided by combining the deformed shape invariance technique with the point canonical transformation method in a novel way.It consists in employing our previous knowledge of the PDM problem energy spectrum to construct a constant-mass Schrödinger equation with similar characteristics and in deducing the PDM wavefunctions from the known constantmass ones. Finally, the equivalence of the wavefunctions coming from both approaches is checked.

On the solutions of the position-dependent effective mass Schrödinger equation of a nonlinear oscillator related with the isotonic oscillator

R. A. Kraenkel, Murugaian Senthilvelan

We study exact solutions of the position-dependent effective mass Schrodinger equation by considering the new solvable nonlinear oscillator that relates to the isotonic oscillator through the method of point canonical transformations. We construct exactly solvable potentials by choosing physically important position-dependent mass distributions. We also provide the energy spectrum of the bound states and the wavefunctions of the solvable potentials.

On the role of quantum superpotentials in the position dependent mass Schrödinger equation

Gerardo Ovando, José Juan Peña, J. Morales +1 more

The von Roos’ position dependent mass Schrödinger Equation (PDMSE) is given in terms of an effective potential, which is constructed by the potential under study and additional terms involving the position dependent mass and the ambiguity ordering parameters. At this regard, some of the most important approaches to the ambiguity parameters are those of BenDaniel-Duke, Gora-Williams, Zhu-Kroemer, Li-Kuhn and so on. In this work we show that for the cases of Zhu-Kroemer and BenDaniel-Duke it is possible to express any solvable potential through a couple of quantum superpotentials. For this, we stablish the factorization of the PDMSE Hamiltonian and the use of a point canonical transformation; these allow to identify a first superpotential W(x). Next, the term in the effective potential with ambiguity parameters is expressed through a function Z(x) and later the cases when Z(x) is a quantum superpotential are discussed. This way, the proposed superpotentials determine the solvable potentials in the PDMSE, the energy spectra and mass functions. We give some examples to explain the approach which can be straightforwardly applied to the solution of the PDMSE for other different potential models and mass distributions.
