Abstract

We investigate the entanglement evolution of two qubits interacting with a common environment through a Heisenberg XX mechanism. We reveal the possibility of realizing the phenomenon of entanglement sudden death as well as the entanglement sudden birth acting on the environment. Such analysis is of maximal interest in the light of the large applications that spin systems have in quantum information theory.

Sudden Death, Birth and Stable Entanglement in a Two-Qubit Heisenberg XY Spin Chain

Shan Chuan-Jia, Cheng Wei-Wen, Tang-Kun Liu +2 more

Taking the decoherence effect due to population relaxation into account, we investigate the entanglement properties for two qubits in the Heisenberg XY interaction and subject to an external magnetic Geld. It is found that the phenomenon of entanglement sudden death (ESD) as well as sudden birth (ESB) appear during the evolution process for particular initial states. The influence of the external magnetic Geld and the spin environment on ESD and ESB are addressed in detail. It is shown that the concurrence, a measure of entanglement, can be controlled by tuning the parameters of the spin chain, such as the anisotropic parameter, external magnetic Geld, and the coupling strength with their environment. In particular, we Gnd that a critical anisotropy constant exists, above which ESB vanishes while ESD appears. It is also notable that stable entanglement, which is independent of different initial states of the qubits, occurs even in the presence of decoherence.

Sudden birth and sudden death of entanglement

Z. Ficek, Tana sacute Ryszard

We discuss a simple model for creation of entanglement in a system composed of two two-level atoms interacting with a common environment. The role of the environment in entangling and disentangling of the atoms is explored. We demonstrate how the spontaneous decay of an initial excitation of the system can create a transient entanglement between the atoms. The opposite situation is also discussed where a spontaneous disentanglement of initially entangled atoms may exhibit some unusual features such as entanglement sudden birth, the phenomenon of entanglement sudden death and revival of entanglement. We provide a discussion of these unusual phenomena in terms of the density matrix elements of the system and show the connection of the phenomena with the threshold behaviour of the concurrence.

Schemes to avoid entanglement sudden death of decohering two qubit system

C. V. Namitha, S. V. M. Satyanarayana

We investigate the entanglement dynamics of two interacting qubits in a common vacuum environment. The inevitable environment interaction leads to entanglement sudden death (ESD) in a two qubit entangled state system. The entanglement dynamics can be modified by the use of local unitary operations (quantum gates), applied on the system during its evolution. We show that these operations not only delays or avoids the ESD but also advances the entanglement revival with high concurrence value depending on the time of operation. We have analytically found out different time windows for switching with different quantum gates so that the ESD can be completely avoided in the subsequent evolution of the system. Our result offers practical applications in the field of quantum information processing where the entanglement is a necessary resource.

Sudden death and sudden birth of entanglement in common structured reservoirs

L. Mazzola, Sabrina Maniscalco, Jyrki Piilo +2 more

We study the exact entanglement dynamics of two qubits in a common structured reservoir. We demonstrate that for certain classes of entangled states, entanglement sudden death occurs, while for certain initially factorized states, entanglement sudden birth takes place. The backaction of the non-Markovian reservoir is responsible for revivals of entanglement after sudden death has occurred, and also for periods of disentanglement following entanglement sudden birth.

Open quantum system dynamics of X-states: Entanglement sudden death and sudden birth

Nikhitha Nunavath, Sandeep Mishra, Anirban Pathak

In this paper, the origin of disentanglement for two specific sub-classes of [Formula: see text]-states namely maximally nonlocal mixed states (MNMSs) and maximally entangled mixed states (MEMSs) is investigated analytically for a physical system consisting of two spatially separated qubits interacting with a common vacuum bath. The phenomena of entanglement sudden death (ESD) and the entanglement sudden birth (ESB) are observed, but the characteristics of ESD and ESB are found to be different for the case of two-photon coherence and single photon coherence states. The role played by initial coherence for the underlying entanglement dynamics is investigated. Further, the entanglement dynamics of MNMSs and MEMSs under different environmental noises namely phase damping, amplitude damping and random telegraph noise (RTN) noise with respect to the decay and revival of entanglement is analyzed. It is observed that the single photon coherence states are more robust against the sudden death of entanglement, indicating the usability of such states in the development of technologies for the practical implementation of quantum information processing tasks.

Dynamics of two qubits in common environment

E. N. Bratus’, Leonid Andreevich Pastur

We consider the entanglement evolution of two qubits embedded into disordered multiconnected environment. We model the environment and its interaction with qubits by large random matrices allowing for a possibility to describe environments of meso- and even nanosize. We obtain general formulas for the time dependent reduced density matrix of the qubits corresponding to several cases of the qubit-environment interaction and initial condition. We then work out an analog of the Born–Markov approximation to find the evolution of the widely used entanglement quantifiers: the concurrence, the negativity and the quantum discord. We show that even in this approximation the time evolution of the reduced density matrix can be non-Markovian, thereby describing certain memory effects due to the backaction of the environment on qubits. In particular, we find the vanishing of the entanglement (Entanglement Sudden Death) at finite moments and its revivals (Entanglement Sudden Birth). Our results, partly known and partly new, can be viewed as a manifestation of the universality of certain properties of decoherent qubit evolution which have been found previously in various versions of bosonic macroscopic environment.
