Abstract

We address the evolution of entanglement in bimodal continuous variable quantum systems interacting with two independent structured reservoirs. We derive an analytic expression for the entanglement of formation without performing the Markov and the secular approximations and study in details the entanglement dynamics for various types of structured reservoirs and for different reservoir temperatures, assuming the two modes initially excited in a twin-beam state. Our analytic solution allows us to identify three dynamical regimes characterized by different behaviors of the entanglement: the entanglement sudden death, the non-Markovian revival and the non-secular revival regimes. Remarkably, we find that, contrarily to the Markovian case, the short-time system-reservoir correlations in some cases destroy quickly the initial entanglement even at zero temperature.

Entanglement Dynamics of Separable Squeezed States in Finite Memory Structured Reservoir

Austen Couvertier, Ting Yu

Entanglement in continuous-variable Gaussian systems is a key resource, and common reservoirs can both suppress and generate correlations. Existing work focused on pre-entangled states or Markovian baths, leaving open whether separable squeezed inputs entangle in structured environments or under modulation. We study two bosonic modes coupled to a common reservoir, each initialized in a separable squeezed vacuum. Dynamics are analyzed utilizing Gaussian covariance methods, evolved under approximate Non-Markovian quantum state diffusion (QSD), finite-temperature pseudomode embeddings, and Bures-based non-Markovian diagnostics. We identify three mechanisms absent in Markovian dynamics: (1) A detuning condition that freezes entanglement trajectories across reservoir correlation times; (2) birth, death, and revival of entanglement from orthogonal inputs; and (3) integer-locked beating with square-wave oscillations produced by periodic detuning. All mechanisms persist at finite temperature, with deviations bounded within 5% in cryogenic regimes and 20% at moderate occupations. These deviation bounds align with cryogenic cavity, phononic, and optomechanical platforms, where structured spectral densities and detuning modulation are already accessible. Structured reservoirs are shown to emerge as tunable entanglement resources for continuous-variable quantum technologies.

Entanglement in two-mode continuous variable open quantum systems

Аурелиан Исар

In the framework of the theory of open systems based on completely positive quantum dynamical semigroups, we present a description of continuous-variable entanglement for a system consisting of two non-interacting modes embedded in a thermal environment. By using the Peres–Simon necessary and sufficient criterion for the separability of two-mode Gaussian states, we describe the evolution of entanglement in terms of the covariance matrix for Gaussian input states. For all values of the temperature of the thermal reservoir, an initial separable Gaussian state remains separable for all times. In the case of an entangled initial Gaussian state, entanglement suppression (entanglement sudden death) takes place for non-zero temperatures of the environment. Only for zero temperature of the thermal bath, the initial entangled state remains entangled for finite times. We also show that, independent of its type, namely separable or entangled, the initial state evolves asymptotically to an equilibrium state that is always separable.

Quantum entanglement of two-mode continuous variable states in a thermal reservoir

Аурелиан Исар

Using the theory of open systems based on completely positive quantum dynamical semigroups, we describe the dynamics of entanglement for a system consisting of two uncoupled harmonic oscillators interacting with a thermal reservoir. Using Peres-Simon necessary and sufficient criterion for separability of two-mode Gaussian states, we describe the evolution of entanglement in terms of the covariance matrix for a Gaussian input state. For some values of the temperature of environment, the state keeps for all times its initial type - separable or entangled. In other cases, entanglement generation, entanglement sudden death or a repeated collapse and revival of entanglement take place. We analyze also the time evolution of the logarithmic negativity, which characterizes the degree of quantum entanglement.

Entanglement for Two-Qubit Extended Werner-Like States: Effect of Non-Markovian Environments

Shan Chuan-Jia, Ji-Bing Liu, Tao Chen +4 more

We investigate the sudden birth and sudden death of entanglement of two qubits interacting with un-correlated structured reservoirs. The system is initially prepared in two-qubit extended Werner-like state. We work out the dependence of the entanglement dynamics on both non-Markovian environments and the purity of initial state, and show that non-Markovian environments and the purity can control the time of the two-qubit entanglement sudden death and the reservoirs' entanglement sudden birth. Furthermore, under the conditions of different purity and initial entanglement, the revival of qubits' entanglement can manifest before, simultaneously or even after the disentanglement of their corresponding reservoirs.

Entanglement Dynamics of Three Qubits in the Non-Markovian Environments

Shan Chuan-Jia, Ji-Bing Liu, Tao Chen +3 more

We consider the entanglement dynamics of three two-level atoms interacting with independent structured non-Markovian reservoirs. The atoms are initially prepared in a mixed multipartite Greenberger—Horne—Zeilinger (GHZ)-type state. Based on the purity and non-Markovian reservoirs, we show that the reservoirs' entanglement can exhibit not only multipartite entanglement sudden birth but also entanglement sudden death, and the revival of atom entanglement is not always accompanied by the disentanglement of reservoirs. Meanwhile, we derive the quantitative criteria for multipartite revival and death phenomena and find multipartite entanglement sudden death and entanglement sudden birth simultaneous apparition time is independent of the initial three-qubit state.

Non-Markovian dynamics of entanglement for multipartite systems

Jiang Zhou, Chengjun Wu, Mingyi Zhu +1 more

Entanglement dynamics for a couple of two-level atoms interacting with independent structured reservoirs is studied using a non-perturbative approach. It is shown that the revival of atom entanglement is not necessarily accompanied by the sudden death of reservoir entanglement, and vice versa. In fact, atom entanglement can revive before, simultaneously or even after the disentanglement of reservoirs. Using a novel method based on the population analysis for the excited atomic state, we present the quantitative criteria for the revival and death phenomena. To give a more physically intuitive insight, the quasimode Hamiltonian method is applied. Our quantitative analysis is helpful for the practical engineering of entanglement.
