Dynamics of a two-species Bose-Einstein condensate in a double well

Abstract

We study the dynamics of a two-species Bose-Einstein condensate in a double well. Such a system is characterized by the intraspecies and interspecies $s$-wave scattering as well as the Josephson tunneling between the two wells and the population transfer between the two species. We investigate the dynamics for some interesting regimes and present numerical results to support our conclusions. In the case of vanishing intraspecies scattering lengths and a weak interspecies scattering length, we find collapses and revivals in the population dynamics. A possible experimental implementation of our proposal is briefly discussed.

Splitting dynamics of a two-species Bose-Einstein condensate in two translating traps

Bo Sun, Michael Stuart Pindzola

Abstract We extend our previous work of splitting a single-species Bose-Einstein condensate in two translating traps to a two-species condensate. Different from the single species case where interaction is considered as a damping mechanism to the motion of the condensate, we find that, in the two species case, the damping effect is much less obvious and the splitting dynamics exhibit different behaviors. The distribution of each component are not damped towards 50:50 for large interaction strength in the two wells. Our conclusions are supported by investigating the dependence of the splitting on both the translation speed and the interspecies scattering length.

Tunneling dynamics and phase transition of a Bose-Fermi mixture in a double well

Qi Peng-Tang, Wen‐Shan Duan

The coherent nonlinear tunneling dynamics of a boson-fermion mixture in a double-well potential is studied in this paper. Four types of phase are found for the mixture. The first one is two species localizing in different potential wells. The second one is two species coexisting in the same well. The third one is two species equally populated in two wells. The fourth one is one species equally populated in two wells while the other species is in one well. The phase transitions among these four states have been investigated. The interspecies and intraspecies interactions as well as bosonic and fermionic numbers can dramatically affect these phase transitions.

Collective dynamics of two-species Bose-Einstein-condensate mixtures in a double-well potential

Haibo Qiu, Jing Tian, Libin Fu

By employing a binary mixture of Bose-Einstein condensates in a symmetric double-well potential we study the collective dynamics of a two-coupled-Hamiltonian system. There we find three interesting collective dynamic regimes. Besides measure synchronization, phase synchronization and nonlocal measure synchronization have been found. We demonstrate that by varying the interspecies interaction strength, the transitions between different regimes can be found clearly. A diagram of dynamic regimes with experimentally adjustable parameters has also been presented.

Tunneling Dynamics of Two-Species Bose–Einstein Condensates

Yang Li-Min, Zhao-Xian Yu, Jiao Zhi-Yong

We have studied the tunneling dynamics of two-species Bose–Einstein condensates. It is shown that the population difference and the Josephson-like tunneling current between the two condensates exhibit oscillation behaviors and there exists macroscopic quantum self-trapping, which strongly depends on the initial state, interatomic nonlinear self-interaction, interspecies nonlinear interaction, and the total number of atoms in the two condensates.

Josephson junction of two-species Bose—Einstein condensates in a high-finesse optical cavity

Bin Wang, Lei Tan, 吕纯海 +1 more

The mean-field dynamics of undistinguishable two-species Bose Josephson junction coupled to a single mode highfinesse optical cavity is investigated. From the Hamiltonian, the phase portrait and the stationary points are given. It is shown that the role of the interspecies interaction equals the intraspecies interaction under suitable conditions. As the interspecies interaction increases, the trapped atoms will start tunneling between the two wells unnaturally for some special cases.
