Abstract

We demonstrate how to efficiently derive a broad class of inequalities for entanglement detection in multimode continuous variable systems. The separability conditions are established from partial transposition (PT) in combination with several distinct necessary conditions for a quantum physical state, which include previously established inequalities as special cases. Remarkably, our method enables us to support Peres' conjecture to its full generality within the framework of Cavalcanti-Foster-Reid-Drummond multipartite Bell inequality [Phys. Rev. Lett. 99, 210405 (2007)] that the nonlocality necessarily implies negative PT entangled states.

Quantum Nonlocality and Partial Transposition for Continuous-Variable Systems

Alejo Salles, Daniel Cavalcanti, Antonio Acín

A continuous-variable Bell inequality, valid for an arbitrary number of observers measuring observables with an arbitrary number of outcomes, was recently introduced [Cavalcanti, Phys. Rev. Lett. 99, 210405 (2007)10.1103/PhysRevLett.99.210405]. We prove that any n-mode quantum state violating this inequality with quadrature measurements necessarily has a negative partial transposition. Our results thus establish the first link between nonlocality and bound entanglement for continuous-variable systems.

Conditions for multipartite continuous-variable entanglement

Evgeny V Shchukin, W. Vogel

Necessary and sufficient observable conditions for the non-negativity of all partial transpositions of multimode quantum states are derived. The result is a hierarchy of inequalities for minors in terms of moments of the given state. The violation of any inequality is a sufficient condition for entanglement. Full entanglement can be certified for a manifold of multimode quantum states. A MATHEMATICA package is given for a systematic test of the hierarchy of conditions.

Loophole-Free Bell Test for Continuous Variables via Wave and Particle Correlations

Se-Wan Ji, Jaewan Kim, Hai-Woong Lee +2 more

We derive two classes of multimode Bell inequalities under local realistic assumptions, which are violated only by the entangled states negative under partial transposition in accordance with the Peres conjecture. Remarkably, the failure of local realism can be manifested by exploiting wave and particle correlations of readily accessible continuous-variable states, with very large violation of inequalities insensitive to detector efficiency, which makes a strong case for a loophole-free test.

Systematic construction of genuine-multipartite-entanglement criteria in continuous-variable systems using uncertainty relations

Fabricio Toscano, A. Saboia, Ardiley Torres Avelar +1 more

A general procedure to construct criteria for identifying genuine multipartite continuous-variable entanglement is presented. It relies on the definition of adequate global operators describing the multipartite system, the positive partial transpose criterion of separability, and quantum-mechanical uncertainty relations. As a consequence, each criterion encountered consists of a single inequality that is nicely computable and experimentally feasible. Violation of the inequality is a sufficient condition for genuine multipartite entanglement. Additionally, we show that the previous work of van Loock and Furusawa [P. van Loock and A. Furusawa, Phys. Rev. A 67, 052315 (2003)] is a special case of our result.

Detecting entanglement by symplectic uncertainty relations

Alessio Serafini

A hierarchy of multimode uncertainty relations on the second moments of n pairs of canonical operators is derived in terms of quantities invariant under linear canonical (i.e., "symplectic") transformations. Conditions for the separability of multimode continuous variable states are derived from the uncertainty relations, generalizing the inequalities obtained previously [Phys. Rev. Lett.96, 110402 (2006)] to states with some transposed symplectic eigenvalues equal to 1. Finally, to illustrate the methodology proposed for the detection of continuous variable entanglement, the separability of multimode noisy Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger-like states is analyzed in detail with the presented techniques, deriving a necessary and sufficient condition for the separability of such states under an "even" bipartition of the modes.

Recovering Quantum Properties of Continuous-Variable States in the Presence of Measurement Errors

Evgeny V Shchukin, Peter van Loock

We present two results which combined enable one to reliably detect multimode, multipartite entanglement in the presence of measurement errors. The first result leads to a method to compute the best (approximated) physical covariance matrix given a measured nonphysical one assuming that no additional information about the measurement is available except the standard deviations from the mean values. The other result states that a widely used entanglement condition is a consequence of negativity of partial transposition. Our approach can quickly verify the entanglement of experimentally obtained multipartite states, which is demonstrated on several realistic examples. Compared to existing detection schemes, ours is very simple and efficient. In particular, it does not require any complicated optimizations.
