Non-Hermitian Quantum Mechanics with Minimal Length Uncertainty

Abstract

We study non-Hermitian quantum mechanics in the presence of a minimal length. In particular we obtain exact solutions of a non-Hermitian displaced harmonic oscillator and the Swanson model with minimal length uncertainty. The spectrum in both the cases are found to be real.It is also shown that the models are η pseudo-Hermitian and the metric operator is found explicitly in both the cases.

Comment on ''Non-Hermitian Quantum Mechanics with Minimal Length Uncertainty''

Bijan Kumar Bagchi

We demonstrate that the recent paper by Jana and Roy entitled "Non-Hermitian quantum mechanics with minimal length uncertainty" [SIGMA 5 (2009), 083, 7 pages, arXiv:0908.1755] contains various misconceptions. We compare with an analysis on the same topic carried out previously in our manuscript [arXiv:0907.5354].In particular, we show that the metric operators computed for the deformed non-Hermitian Swanson models differs in both cases and is inconsistent in the former.

Hermitian versus non-Hermitian representations for minimal length uncertainty relations

Sanjib Dey, Andreas Fring, Boubakeur Khantoul

We investigate four different types of representations of deformed canonical variables leading to generalized versions of Heisenberg's uncertainty relations resulting from noncommutative spacetime structures. We demonstrate explicitly how the representations are related to each other and study three characteristically different solvable models on these spaces, the harmonic oscillator, the manifestly non-Hermitian Swanson model and an intrinsically noncommutative model with Poeschl-Teller type potential. We provide an analytical expression for the metric in terms of quantities specific to the generic solution procedure and show that when it is appropriately implemented expectation values are independent of the particular representation. A recently proposed inequivalent representation resulting from Jordan twists is shown to lead to unphysical models. We suggest an anti-PT-symmetric modification to overcome this shortcoming.

Pseudo-Hermitian quantum mechanics with unbounded metric operators

Ali Mostafazadeh

I extend the formulation of pseudo-Hermitian quantum mechanics to η(+)-pseudo-Hermitian Hamiltonian operators H with an unbounded metric operator η(+). In particular, I give the details of the construction of the physical Hilbert space, observables and equivalent Hermitian Hamiltonian for the case that H has a real and discrete spectrum and its eigenvectors belong to the domain of η(+) and consequently √η(+).

Pseudo-Hermitian extensions of the harmonic and isotonic oscillators

Aritra Ghosh, Akash Sinha

Abstract In this work, we describe certain pseudo-Hermitian extensions of the harmonic and isotonic oscillators, both of which are exactly-solvable models in quantum mechanics. By coupling the dynamics of a particle moving in a one-dimensional potential to an imaginary-valued gauge field, it is possible to obtain certain pseudo-Hermitian extensions of the original (Hermitian) problem. In particular, it is pointed out that the Swanson oscillator arises as such an extension of the quantum harmonic oscillator. For the pseudo-Hermitian extensions of the harmonic and isotonic oscillators, we explicitly solve for the wavefunctions in the position representation and also explore their intertwining relations.

The Metric Operator and the Functional Integral Formulation of Pseudo-Hermitian Quantum Mechanics

Hugh F Jones

Pseudo-Hermitian quantum theories are those in which the Hamiltonian H satisfies H† = ηHη-1, where η = e-Q is a positive-definite Hermitian operator, rather than the usual H† = H. In the operator formulation of such theories the standard Hilbert-space metric must be modified by the inclusion of η in order to ensure their probabilistic interpretation. With possible generalizations to quantum field theory in mind, it is important to ask how the functional integral formalism for pseudo-Hermitian theories differs from that of standard theories. It turns out that here Q plays quite a different role, serving primarily to implement a canonical transformation of the variables. It does not appear explicitly in the expression for the vacuum generating functional. Instead, the relation to the Hermitian theory is encoded via the dependence of Z on the external source j(t). These points are illustrated and amplified in various versions of the Swanson model, a non-Hermitian transform of the simple harmonic oscillator.

Algebraic Solution of the Harmonic Oscillator With Minimal Length Uncertainty Relations

Kay L. Gemba, Zvonimir Hlousek, Zoltán Papp

In quantum mechanics with minimal length uncertainty relations the Heisenberg-Weyl algebra of the one-dimensional harmonic oscillator is a deformed SU(1,1) algebra. The eigenvalues and eigenstates are constructed algebraically and they form the infinite-dimensional representation of the deformed SU(1,1) algebra. Our construction is independent of prior knowledge of the exact solution of the Schrödinger equation of the model. The approach can be generalized to the $D$-dimensional oscillator with non-commuting coordinates.
