On Non Ergodic Property of Bose Gas with Weak Pair Interaction

Abstract

In this paper we prove that Bose gas with weak pair interaction is non ergodic system. In order to prove this fact we consider the divergences in some nonequilibrium diagram technique. These divergences are analogous to the divergences in the kinetic equations discovered by Cohen and Dorfman. We develop the general theory of renormalization of such divergences and illustrate it with some simple examples. The fact that the system is non ergodic leads to the following consequence: to prove that the system tends to the thermal equilibrium we should take into account its behavior on its boundary. In this paper we illustrate this thesis with the Bogoliubov derivation of the kinetic equations.

Nonequilibrium Renormalization Theory I

D. V. Prokhorenko

In the present article we consider some general class of divergent diagrams in Keldysh diagram technique. These divergences arise for nonequilibrium matter and closely related to the divergences in the kinetic theory of gases. We suggest a scheme of renormalization of such divergences and illustrate it on some examples. In the other papers of these series we develop the general theory of renormalization of nonequilibrium diagram technique. The fact that thermal divergences in non-equilibrium diagram technique can be renormalized leads to the following consequence: to prove that the system tends to the thermal equilibrium one should to take into account the behaviour of the system on its boundary. In this paper we illustrate this fact on Bogoliubov derivation of kinetic equations.

Thermodynamic properties of confined interacting Bose gases: A renormalization-group approach

G. Alber

A renormalization-group method is developed with which thermodynamic properties of a weakly interacting, finite-size Bose gas can be investigated. Thereby effects originating from a confining potential are taken into account by periodic boundary conditions and by treating the resulting discrete energy levels of the confined degrees of freedom properly. The resulting density of states modifies the flow equations of the renormalization group in momentum space. It is shown that as soon as the characteristic length of confinement becomes comparable to the thermal wavelength of a weakly interacting and trapped Bose gas its thermodynamic properties are changed significantly. This is exemplified by investigating characteristic bunching properties of the interacting Bose gas which manifest themselves in the second-order coherence factor.

Out-of-equilibrium dynamics and thermalization of weakly interacting disordered Bose gases

Thibault Scoquart

This thesis manuscript is devoted to different aspects of the non-equilibrium dynamics of a moving two-dimensional ultra-cold Bose gas, under the simultaneous action of a spatially disordered potential and interactions between particles. In the absence of interactions, the momentum distribution of the gas is the sum of two well-known components: a classical, diffusive background made of particles multiply scattered by the disorder, and a coherent backscattering interference peak (CBS peak), consequence of the weak localization phenomenon. In the presence of weak interactions, mean field simulations show that these two contributions evolve in time. This evolution is described by two coupled kinetic equations, which we derive using a microscopic quantum transport theory. These predict the destruction of the CBS peak by an effective dephasing mechanism, and the thermalization of the diffusive background. As the interaction strength increases, the effects of disorder become negligible, and the dynamics of the gas resembles that of a superfluid. In this regime, the gas quickly enters a so-called "pre-thermal" state: the spatial correlations g_1 decrease algebraically and propagate along a light cone, in accordance with theoretical predictions. Finally, at long times, our simulations describe the global evolution of the system towards a thermal equilibrium state, characterized by a Kosterlitz-Thouless transition separating a normal fluid state from a superfluid state. Some properties of this phase transition, resulting from the non-equilibrium evolution in the presence of disorder, are discussed.

Kinetics of Strongly Non-Equilibrium Bose-Einstein Condensation

Boris V. Svistunov

We consider the ordering kinetics in a strongly non-equilibrium state of a (weakly) interacting Bose gas, characterized, on one hand, by large occupation numbers, and, on the other hand, by the absence of long-range order. Up to higher-order corrections in inverse occupation numbers, the evolution is described by non-linear Schrodinger equation with a turbulent initial state. The ordering process is rather rich and involves a number of qualitatively different regimes that take place in different regions of energy space. Specially addressed is the case of evolution in an external potential.

Functional renormalization group approach to the two dimensional Bose gas

Andreas Sinner, N. Hasselmann, Peter Kopietz

We investigate the small frequency and momentum structure of the weakly interacting Bose gas in two dimensions using a functional renormalization group approach. The flow equations are derived within a derivative approximation of the effective action up to second order in spatial and temporal variables and investigated numerically. The truncation we employ is based on the perturbative structure of the theory and is well described as a renormalization group enhanced perturbation theory. It allows to calculate corrections to the Bogoliubov spectrum and to investigate the damping of quasiparticles. Our approach allows to circumvent the divergences which plague the usual perturbative approach.
