Abstract

We show that configurations exist in which the correlation functions and the degree of violation of Bell-type inequalities in the relativistic Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) experiment have local extrema for some values of the velocities of the EPR particles. Moreover, this strange behavior can be observed for both discussed relativistic spin operators and for spin-$1∕2$ as well as spin-1 particles.

Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen correlations of vector bosons

Paweł Caban, Jakub Rembieliński, Marta Włodarczyk

We calculate the joint probabilities and the correlation function in Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen--type experiments with a massive vector boson in the framework of quantum field theory. We report on the strange behavior of the correlation function (and the probabilities)---the correlation function, which in the relativistic case still depends on the particle momenta, for some fixed configurations has local extrema. We also show that relativistic spin-1 particles violate some Bell inequalities more than nonrelativistic ones and that the degree of violation of the Bell inequality is momentum dependent.

RELATIVISTIC EINSTEIN-PODOLSKY-ROSEN CORRELATION AND BELL'S INEQUALITY

Hiroaki Terashima, Masahito Ueda

We formulate the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) gedankenexperiment within the framework of relativistic quantum theory to analyze a situation in which measurements are performed by moving observers. We point out that under certain conditions the perfect anti-correlation of an EPR pair of spins in the same direction deteriorates in the moving observers' frame due to the Wigner rotation, and show that the degree of the violation of Bell's inequality prima facie decreases with increasing velocity of the observers if the directions of the measurement are fixed. However, this does not imply a breakdown of non-local correlation since the perfect anti-correlation is maintained in appropriately chosen different directions. When considering moving frames we must take account of this relativistic effect on the EPR correlation and on the violation of Bell's inequality for quantum communication.

We analyse the correlation function in Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen experiment with relativistic massive particles. We show that in the wide range of parameters the correlation function has local extrema as a function of momentum of the EPR particles.

Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen correlations in a hybrid system

Paweł Caban, Jakub Rembieliński, Piotr Witas +1 more

We calculate the relativistic correlation function for a hybrid system of a photon and a Dirac particle. Such a system can be produced in decay of another spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ fermion. We show that the relativistic correlation function, which depends on particle momenta, may have local extrema for fermion velocity of the order $0.5c$. This influences the degree of violation of the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt inequality.

The Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen state maximally violates Bell's inequalities

Hans Halvorson

In their well-known argument against the completeness of quantum theory, Einstein, Podolsky, and Rosen (EPR) made use of a state that strictly correlates the positions and momenta of two particles. We prove the existence and uniqueness of the EPR state as a normalized, positive linear functional of the Weyl algebra for two degrees of freedom. We then show that the EPR state maximally violates Bell's inequalities.

Polarization correlations of Dirac particles

Paweł Caban, Agnieszka Dzięgielewska, Anna Karmazyn +1 more

We calculate the polarization correlation function in the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen--type experiments with relativistic spin-$1/2$ particles. This function depends monotonically on the particle momenta. Moreover, we also show that the polarization correlation function violates the Clauser-Horn-Shimony-Holt inequality and the degree of this violation can depend on the particle momenta and the motion of observers.
