Relation between phase and dwell times for quantum tunneling of a relativistically propagating particle

Alex E. Bernardini

The general and explicit relation between the phase time and the dwell time for quantum tunneling of a relativistically propagating particle is investigated and quantified. In analogy with previously obtained non-relativistic results, it is shown that the group delay can be described in terms of the dwell time and a self-interference delay. Lessons concerning the phenomenology of the relativistic tunneling are drawn.

Relation between quantum tunneling times for relativistic particles

Herbert G. Winful, Moussa N’Gom, Natalia M. Litchinitser

A general relation between the phase time (group delay) and the dwell time is derived for relativistic tunneling particles described by the Dirac equation. It is shown that the phase time equals the dwell time plus a self-interference delay which is a relativistic generalization of previous results.

Time delay in tunnelling through a potential barrier

J R Fletcher

A simple method is proposed for calculation of the time taken for a particle to tunnel through a potential barrier. The method is applicable to long or short wave packets. For short wave packets the time is reduced below the results given by the stationary phase method.
