The explicit relationship of photon number tomogram and optical tomogram is obtained for two-mode light. The corresponding integral kernel is expressed in terms of Laguerre polynomials. The connection of the Heisenberg uncertainty relationship with photon statistics is elucidated.

Photon distribution function, tomograms and entanglement in stimulated Raman scattering

Sergey Vladimirovich Kuznetsov, Olga V Man apos ko, Nicolaii V. Tcherniega

Several aspects of the stimulated Raman scattering process are studied using the model of a two-dimensional oscillator. The photons of the Stokes mode are taken as one mode of the oscillator and the phonons of the medium are taken as the other mode of the oscillator. The interaction Hamiltonian of the photons and phonons is taken to be quadratic in the annihilation and creation operators of photons and phonons. The laser is considered as a classical light source and its depletion is neglected. The photon?phonon joint probability distribution function is found and expressed in terms of Hermite polynomials of four variables. The general formula for the photon number probability distribution as a function of the laser-field intensity and the medium parameters is obtained in terms of Hermite polynomials of two variables. It is shown that the phenomenon of entanglement appears in photon?phonon modes due to the interaction of the light with the medium. The tomograms of the photon?phonon states and (averaged over the phonon mode) photon states are investigated within the framework of a symplectic tomography scheme.

Signatures of entanglement in an optical tomogram

M. Rohith, C. Sudheesh

We theoretically study the optical tomograms of maximally entangled states generated at the output modes of a beam splitter. We consider even and odd coherent states in one of the input modes and vacuum state in the other input mode of the beam splitter. We have shown that the signatures of entanglement can be observed directly in the single-mode optical tomogram of the state without reconstructing the density matrix of the system. Two distinct types of optical tomograms are observed in any one of the output modes of the beam splitter based on the quadrature measurement in the other output mode if the output modes are entangled. The different features shown by the optical tomograms are verified by investigating the photon-number statistics of the corresponding state. We analyze the effect of decoherence on the optical tomograms of the entangled states.
