Three-tangle does not properly quantify tripartite entanglement for Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger-type states

Abstract

Some mixed states composed of only Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) states can be expressed in terms of only $W$ states. This fact implies that such states have vanishing three-tangle. One of such rank-3 states, ${\ensuremath{\Pi}}_{GHZ}$, is explicitly presented in this Rapid Communication. These results are used to compute analytically the three-tangle of a rank-4 mixed state $\ensuremath{\sigma}$ composed of four GHZ states. This analysis with considering Bloch sphere ${S}^{16}$ of $d=4$ qudit system allows us to derive the hyperpolyhedron. It is shown that the states in this hyperpolyhedron have vanishing three-tangle. Computing the one-tangles for ${\ensuremath{\Pi}}_{GHZ}$ and $\ensuremath{\sigma}$, we prove the monogamy inequality explicitly. Making use of the fact that the three-tangle of ${\ensuremath{\Pi}}_{GHZ}$ is zero, we try to explain why the $W$ class in the whole mixed states is not of measure zero contrary to the case of pure states.

Entangled Three-Qubit States without Concurrence and Three-Tangle

Robert Lohmayer, Andreas Osterloh, Jens Siewert +1 more

We provide a complete analysis of mixed three-qubit states composed of a Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state and a W state orthogonal to the former. We present optimal decompositions and convex roofs for the three-tangle. Further, we provide an analytical method to decide whether or not an arbitrary rank-2 state of three qubits has vanishing three-tangle. These results highlight intriguing differences compared to the properties of two-qubit mixed states, and may serve as a quantitative reference for future studies of entanglement in multipartite mixed states. By studying the Coffman-Kundu-Wootters inequality we find that, while the amounts of inequivalent entanglement types strictly add up for pure states, this "monogamy" can be lifted for mixed states by virtue of vanishing tangle measures.

Three-tangle for rank-three mixed states: Mixture of Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger, W , and flipped- W states

Eylee Jung, Mi-Ra Hwang, DaeKil Park +1 more

Three-tangle for a rank-3 mixture composed of Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger, $W$, and flipped-$W$ states is analytically calculated. The optimal decompositions in the full range of parameter space are constructed by making use of the convex-roof extension. We also provide an analytical technique, which determines whether or not an arbitrary rank-3 state has vanishing three-tangle. This technique is developed by making use of the Bloch sphere ${S}^{8}$ of the qutrit system. The Coffman-Kundu-Wootters inequality is discussed by computing one-tangle and concurrences. It is shown that the one-tangle is always larger than the sum of squared concurrences and three-tangle. The physical implication of three-tangle is briefly discussed.

Entanglement Constraints on States Locally Connected to the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger State

Grant W. Allen, Orest Bucicovschi, DAVID A. MEYER

The multi-qubit GHZ state possesses tangles with elegant transformation properties under stochastic local operations and classical communication. Since almost all pure 3-qubit states are connected to the GHZ state via SLOCC, we derive a necessary and sufficient achievability inequality on arbitrary 3-qubit tangles, which is a strictly stronger constraint than both the monogamy inequality and the marginal eigenvalue inequality. We then show that entanglement shared with any single party in the n-qubit GHZ SLOCC equivalence class is precisely accounted for by the sum of its k-tangles, recently coined the strong monogamy equality, acknowledging competing but agreeing definitions of the k-tangle on this class, one of which is then computable for arbitrary mixed states. Strong monogamy is known to not hold arbitrarily, and so we introduce a unifying outlook on entanglement constraints in light of basic real algebraic geometry.

Three-tangle for mixtures of generalized GHZ and generalized W states

C Eltschka, A Osterloh, J Siewert +1 more

We give a complete solution for the three-tangle of mixed three-qubit states composed of a generalized Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger (GHZ) state, a |000⟩+ b |111⟩, and a generalized W state, c |001⟩+ d |010⟩+ f |100⟩. Using the methods introduced by Lohmayer et al (2006 Phys. Rev. Lett. 97 260502), we provide explicit expressions for the mixed-state three-tangle and the corresponding optimal decompositions for this more general case. Moreover, as a special case, we obtain a general solution for a family of states consisting of a generalized GHZ state and an orthogonal product state.

Tripartite Entanglement versus Tripartite Nonlocality in Three-Qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger-Class States

Shohini Ghose, Neil E. Sinclair, Shantanu Debnath +2 more

We analyze the relationship between tripartite entanglement and genuine tripartite nonlocality for three-qubit pure states in the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger class. We consider a family of states known as the generalized Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states and derive an analytical expression relating the three-tangle, which quantifies tripartite entanglement, to the Svetlichny inequality, which is a Bell-type inequality that is violated only when all three qubits are nonlocally correlated. We show that states with three-tangle less than 1/2 do not violate the Svetlichny inequality. On the other hand, a set of states known as the maximal slice states does violate the Svetlichny inequality, and exactly analogous to the two-qubit case, the amount of violation is directly related to the degree of tripartite entanglement. We discuss further interesting properties of the generalized Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger and maximal slice states.
