The fractal structure and scaling properties of a 2d slice of the 3d Ising model is studied using Monte Carlo techniques. The percolation transition of geometric spin (GS) clusters is found to occur at the Curie point, reflecting the critical behavior of the 3d model. The fractal dimension and the winding angle statistics of the perimeter and external perimeter of the geometric spin clusters at the critical point suggest that, if conformally invariant in the scaling limit, they can be described by the theory of Schramm-Löwner evolution (SLE κ ) with diffusivity of κ=5 and 16/5, respectively, putting them in the same universality class as the interfaces in 2d tricritical Ising model. It is also found that the Fortuin-Kasteleyn (FK) clusters associated with the cross-sections undergo a nontrivial percolation transition, in the same universality class as the ordinary 2d critical percolation.
We report on the numerical measures on different spin interfaces and Fortuin-Kasteleyn (FK) cluster boundaries in the Askhin-Teller (AT) model. For a general point on the AT critical line, we find that the fractal dimension of a generic spin cluster interface can take one of four different possible values. In particular we found spin interfaces whose fractal dimension is d(f)=3/2 all along the critical line. Furthermore, the fractal dimension of the boundaries of FK clusters was found to satisfy all along the AT critical line a duality relation with the fractal dimension of their outer boundaries. This result provides clear numerical evidence that such duality, which is well known in the case of the O(n) model, exists in an extended conformal field theory.
Abstract The scaling behaviour and conformal properties of a triangular Ising model with three-spin interactions at the critical point are studied using extensive Monte Carlo simulations. We show that in the continuum limit the external perimeter of spin clusters are conformally invariant and statistically equivalent to Schramm–Loewner evolution (SLE κ ) curves with diffusivity κ = 4, indicating that the loop ensembles associated with the critical Ising model with three-spin interactions, belonging to the universality class of domain walls in the four-states Potts model. The left-passage probabilities, distribution of the winding angle, and the driving function distribution for the interfaces are consistent with each other. We also study many geometrical properties of the critical interfaces to characterize the fractal structure and the other scaling properties of conformal loop ensembles. To this end, the fractal dimension of contours, the scaling properties of length and areas distributions and Zipf’s laws, are demonstrated numerically. Our results are compatible with the hyper-scaling relation for spin models.
We present an extensive study of interfaces defined in the Z_4 spin lattice representation of the Ashkin-Teller (AT) model. In particular, we numerically compute the fractal dimensions of boundary and bulk interfaces at the Fateev-Zamolodchikov point. This point is a special point on the self-dual critical line of the AT model and it is described in the continuum limit by the Z_4 parafermionic theory. Extending on previous analytical and numerical studies [10,12], we point out the existence of three different values of fractal dimensions which characterize different kind of interfaces. We argue that this result may be related to the classification of primary operators of the parafermionic algebra. The scenario emerging from the studies presented here is expected to unveil general aspects of geometrical objects of critical AT model, and thus of c=1 critical theories in general.
We present a Monte Carlo study of the geometric properties of Fortuin-Kasteleyn (FK) clusters of the Ising model on square [two-dimensional (2D)] and simple-cubic [three-dimensional (3D)] lattices. The wrapping probability, a dimensionless quantity characterizing the topology of the FK clusters on a torus, is found to suffer from smaller finite-size corrections than the well-known Binder ratio and yields a high-precision critical coupling as
Kc(3D)=0.221654631(8). We then study other geometric properties of FK clusters at criticality. It is demonstrated that the distribution of the critical largest-cluster size
C1 follows a single-variable function as $P({C}_{1},L)\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}d{C}_{1}=\stackrel{\ifmmode \tilde{}\else \~{}\fi{}}{P}(x)\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}dx$ with $x\ensuremath{\equiv}{C}_{1}/{L}^{{d}_{\mathrm{F}}}$ (
L is the linear size), where the fractal dimension
dF is identical to the magnetic exponent. An interesting bimodal feature is observed in distribution $\stackrel{\ifmmode \tilde{}\else \~{}\fi{}}{P}(x)$ in three dimensions, and attributed to the different approaching behaviors for $K\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}_{c}+{0}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}$. To characterize the compactness of the FK clusters, we measure their graph distances and determine the shortest-path exponents as
dmin(3D)=1.25936(12) and
dmin(2D)=1.0940(2). Further, by excluding all the bridges from the occupied bonds, we obtain bridge-free configurations and determine the backbone exponents as
dB(3D)=2.1673(15) and
dB(2D)=1.7321(4). The estimates of the universal wrapping probabilities for the 3D Ising model and of the geometric critical exponents
dmin and
dB either improve over the existing results or have not been reported yet. We believe that these numerical results would provide a testing ground in the development of further theoretical treatments of the 3D Ising model.
