Abstract

We generated -2.2 dB of broadband amplitude squeezing at 1064 nm in a periodically poled KTiOPO4 (PPKTP) waveguide by coupling of the fundamental and second-harmonic cw fields. This is the largest amount of squeezing obtained to date in a KTP waveguide, limited by propagation losses. This result paves the way for further improvements by use of lower-loss buried ion-exchanged waveguides.

Generation of polarization squeezing with periodically poled KTP at 1064 nm

Mikael Lassen, Metin Sabuncu, Preben Buchhave +1 more

We report the experimental demonstration of directly produced polarization squeezing at 1064 nm from a type I optical parametric amplifier (OPA) based on a periodically poled KTP crystal (PPKTP). The orthogonal polarization modes of the polarization squeezed state are both defined by the OPA cavity mode, and the birefringence induced by the PPKTP crystal is compensated by a second, but inactive, PPKTP crystal. Stokes parameter squeezing of 3.6 dB and anti squeezing of 9.4 dB is observed.

Enhanced optical communication and broadband sub-shot-noise interferometry with a stable free-running periodically poled KTiOPO_4 squeezer

Daruo Xie, Matthew Pysher, Jietai Jing +1 more

An intrinsically stable type I optical parametric oscillator was built with a periodically poled KTiOPO4 crystal to generate a stable, bright, cw, broadband phase-squeezed beam. A 3.2 dB sensitivity enhancement of optical interferometry was demonstrated on weak electro-optic modulation signals within a 20 MHz squeezing bandwidth. This also realized a channel capacity increase beyond that of coherent optical communication.

Improvement of vacuum squeezing resonant on the rubidium D1 line at 795 nm

We report on efficient generation of second harmonic laser and single-mode vacuum squeezed light of 795 nm with periodically poled KTiOPO4 (PPKTP) crystals. We achieved 111 mW of ultra-violet (UV) light at 397.5 nm from 191 mW of fundamental light with a PPKTP crystal in a doubling cavity, corresponding to a conversion efficiency of 58.1%. Using the UV light to pump an optical parametric oscillator with a PPKTP crystal, we realized -5.6 dB of a maximum squeezing. We analyzed the pump power dependence of the squeezing level and concluded that the UV light induced losses limit the improvement of the squeezing level. The generated squeezed light has huge potential application in quantum memory and ultra-precise measurement.

Generation of a stable low-frequency squeezed vacuum field with periodically poled KTiOPO_4 at 1064 nm

Keisuke Goda, Eugeniy E. Mikhailov, O. Miyakawa +4 more

We report the generation of a stable continuous-wave low-frequency squeezed vacuum field with a squeezing level of 7.4+/-0.1 dB at 1064 nm, the wavelength at which laser-interferometric gravitational wave (GW) detectors operate, using periodically poled KTiOPO4 (PPKTP) in a subthreshold optical parametric oscillator. The squeezing was observed in a broad band of frequencies above 700 Hz where the sensitivity of the currently operational GW detectors is limited by shot noise. PPKTP has the advantages of higher nonlinearity, smaller pump-induced seed absorption, and wider temperature tuning range than alternative nonlinear materials such as MgO-doped or periodically poled LiNbO3, and is, therefore, an excellent material for generation of squeezed vacuum fields for application to laser interferometers for GW detection.
