Abstract

Under a unified theory we investigate the formation of various types of vector solitons in two-species Bose-Einstein condensates with arbitrary scattering lengths. We then show that by tuning the interaction parameter via Feshbach resonance, transformation between different types of vector solitons is possible. Our results open up alternate ways in the quantum control of multispecies Bose-Einstein condensates.

Stability properties of vector solitons in two-component Bose—Einstein condensates with tunable interactions

Xiao-Fei Zhang, Pei Zhang, Wan-Quan He +1 more

By using a unified theory of the formation of various types of vector-solitons in two-component Bose—Einstein condensates with tunable interactions, we obtain a family of exact vector-soliton solutions for the coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations. Moreover, the Bogoliubov equation shows that there exists stable dark soliton in specific situations. Our results open up new ways in considerable experimental interest for the quantum control of multi-component Bose—Einstein condensates.

Outcoupling vector solitons from a Bose-Einstein condensate with time-dependent interatomic forces

David Feijoo, Ángel Paredes, Humberto Michinel

We discuss the possibility of emitting vector solitons from a two-component elongated BEC by manipulating in time the inter- or intraspecies scattering lengths with Feshbach resonance tuning. We present different situations which do not have an analog in the single species case. In particular, we show vector soliton outcoupling by tuning the interspecies forces, how the evolution in one species is controlled by tuning the dynamics of the other, and how one can implement the so-called supersolitons. The analysis is performed by numerical simulations of the one-dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equation. Simple analytic arguments are also presented in order to give a qualitative insight.

Controllable scattering of vector Bose-Einstein solitons

Judit Babarro, María J. Paz-Alonso, Humberto Michinel +2 more

We show the possibility of producing matter-wave switching devices by using Manakov interactions between vector matter-wave solitons using two-species Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs). Our results establish the experimental parameters for three interaction regimes in two-species BECs: symmetric and asymmetric splitting, down-switching, and up-switching. We have studied the dependence upon the initial conditions and the kind of interaction between the two matter-wave solitons.

Vector solitons in two-component Bose-Einstein condensates with tunable interactions and harmonic potential

Xiao-Fei Zhang, Xinghua Hu, Xunxu Liu +1 more

We present a family of exact vector-soliton solutions for the coupled nonlinear Schr\"odinger equations with tunable interactions and harmonic potential, and then apply the model to investigate the dynamics of solitons and collisions between two orthogonal solitons in the case with equal interaction parameters. Our results show that the exact vector-soliton solutions can be obtained with arbitrary tunable interactions as long as a proper harmonic potential is applied. The dynamics of solitons can be controlled by the Feshbach resonance and the collisions are essentially elastic and do not depend on the initial conditions.

Feshbach resonance management of vector solitons in two-component Bose—Einstein condensates

Qiang Wang, Lin Wen, Zai-Dong Li

We consider two coupled Gross—Pitaevskii equations describing a two-component Bose—Einstein condensate with time-dependent atomic interactions loaded in an external harmonic potential, and investigate the dynamics of vector solitons. By using a direct method, we construct a novel family of vector soliton solutions, which are the linear combination between dark and bright solitons in each component. Our results show that due to the superposition between dark and bright solitons, such vector solitons possess many novel and interesting properties. The dynamics of vector solitons can be controlled by the Feshbach resonance technique, and the vector solitons can keep the dynamic stability against the variation of the scattering length.
