Theoretical method for the generation of a dark two-mode squeezed state of a trapped ion

Abstract

Here we show how to generate a dark two-mode squeezed state of a trapped ion, employing a three-level ion in a V configuration with a strong decay of the excited states. The degree of squeezing can be manipulated by choosing the intensity of the driving fields. Our scheme is robust against the usual dissipation mechanism and could be implemented with present-day technology. The validity of the approximations employed in this work was tested by numerical calculations, which agreed completely with the analytical solutions.

Engineering Two-Mode Squeezed Vacuum Motional State of a Single Intracavity Trapped Ion

Huatang Tan, Tan Rong, Gao‐xiang Li

We propose to generate two-mode squeezed vacuum motional state of an intracavity trapped ion by taking the advantage of the dissipation of the cavity mode. At the first step, the steady and pure two-mode motional entanglement between two motional degrees of the cold ion is obtained by engineering the couplings of both the motional modes of the ion to the cavity field. Based on the first step, a two-mode squeezed vacuum motional state is then generated by manipulating the phases of the external laser pulses incident on the ion.

Preparation of dark squeezed states of the motion of a trappedion by modulation of phase of the standing light field

Feng Chen

A new method to prepare dark squeezed states of the motion of a trapped ion that interacts with a standing wave light field has been proposed. This method is based on modulation of the phase of the standing wave field. The dependence of the squeezed amplitude on the modulation amplitude is investigated.Choosing the appropriate modulating amplitude,we can produce the best squeezed vibrational state of the ion and find that its generation is companied by cancellation of the emitted fluorescence. In addition,an experiment configuration about its preparation is proposed and discussed.

Generation of two-mode squeezed pair-coherent states of the motion of a trapped ion

Shi‐Biao Zheng, Guang‐Can Guo

We propose a scheme for generating motional two-mode squeezed pair-coherent states of an ion trapped in a three-dimensional isotropic trap. It is based on the multichromatic excitation of the ion by six lasers in the x - y plane, and one in the z -axis. Under certain conditions, the system finally reaches the steady state, in which the vibrational motions in the x and y axes are in the two-mode squeezed pair-coherent state and the motion in the z -axis is in the vacuum state.

Generation of two-mode field squeezing through selective dynamics in cavity QED

Fuli Li

We propose a scheme for the generation of a two-mode field squeezed state in cavity QED. It is based on two-channel Raman excitations of a beam of three-level atoms with random arrival times by two classical fields and two high-$Q$ resonator modes. It is shown that by suitably choosing the intensities and detunings of fields the dynamical processes can be selective and two-mode squeezing between the cavity modes can be generated at steady state. This proposal does not need the preparation of the initial states of atoms and cavity modes, and is robust against atomic spontaneous decay.

‘‘Dark’’ squeezed states of the motion of a trapped ion

We propose a scheme for preparing coherent squeezed states of motion in an ion trap based on the multichromatic excitation of a trapped ion by standing- and traveling-wave light fields. The squeezed state is produced when the beat frequency between two standing-wave light fields is equal to twice the trap frequency, and is indicated by a ``dark resonance'' in the fluorescence emitted by the ion.

(1) A technique for the preparation of Fock states of a harmonic oscillator strongly coupled to a single two-level atomic transition is proposed due to the observation of quantum jumps. Examples are taken from the fields of ion trapping and cavity QED, where number states of he quantized atomic motion and photon number states may be prepared respectively.
