Abstract

We consider tripartite entangled states for continuous variable systems of EPR type, which generalize the famous bipartite CV EPR states (eigenvectors of conjugate choices X 1 − X 2 , P 1 + P 2 , of the systems' relative position and total momentum variables). We give the regularized forms of such tripartite EPR states in second-quantized formulation, and derive their Wigner functions. This is directly compared with the established NOPA-like states from quantum optics. Whereas the multipartite entangled states of NOPA type have singular Wigner functions in the limit of large squeezing, r → ∞ , or tanh r → 1 − (approaching the EPR states in the bipartite case), our regularized tripartite EPR states show singular behaviour not only in the approach to the EPR-type region ( s → 1 in our notation), but also for an additional, auxiliary regime of the regulator . While the s → 1 limit pertains to tripartite CV states with singular eigenstates of the relative coordinates and remaining squeezed in the total momentum, the limit yields singular eigenstates of the total momentum, but squeezed in the relative coordinates. Regarded as expectation values of displaced parity measurements, the tripartite Wigner functions provide the ingredients for generalized CHSH inequalities. Violations of the tripartite CHSH bound ( B 3 ⩽ 2) are established, with in the canonical regime ( s → 1 + ), as well as in the auxiliary regime .

Regularised Continuous Variable EPR States with Wigner Functions and CHSH Violations

Sol H. Jacobsen, Peter Jarvis

We consider tripartite entangled states for continuous variable systems of EPR type, which generalise the famous bipartite CV EPR states (eigenvectors of conjugate choices X1−X2,P1+ P2, of the systems ’ total and relative position and momentum variables, respectively). We give the regularised forms of such tripartite EPR states in second-quantised formulation, and derive their Wigner functions. Whereas the multipartite entangled states of NOPA type have singular Wigner functions in the limit of large squeezing, r → ∞, or tanh r → 1 − (approaching the EPR states in the bipartite case), our regularised tripartite EPR states show singular behaviour not only in the approach to the EPR-type region (s → 1 in our notation), but also for an additional, auxiliary regime of the regulator (s → √ 2). While the s → 1 limit pertains to tripartite CV states with singular eigenstates of the relative coordinates and remaining squeezed in the total momentum, the s → √ 2 limit yields singular eigenstates of the total momentum, but squeezed in the relative coordinates. Regarded as expectation values of displaced parity measurements, the tripartite Wigner functions provide the ingredients for generalised CHSH inequalities. Violations of the tripartite CHSH bound (B3 ≤ 2) are established, with B3 ∼ = 2.09 in the canonical regime (s → 1 +), as well as B3 ∼ = 2.32 in the auxiliary regime (s → √ 2 +).

Multi-Partite EPR Entangled State Representation for Continuous Variables and Its Application in Squeezing Theory

Nian-Quan Jiang

By extending the Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen (EPR) bipartite entanglement to an n-partite case, we construct the common eigenstate of the n-partite total coordinate and relative momenta for the continuous variables. The entanglement property of the state is shown. The classical dilation transform of variables in such a state induces a new n-mode squeezing operator related to an n-mode bosonic operator realization of SU(1,1) Lie algebra.

Experimental generation of multipartite entanglement for continuous variables and its application in quantum communication

Kunchi Peng, Jietai Jing, Jing Zhang +2 more

Quantum entanglement shared by more than two partites is the essential bases for developing quantum communication networks and quantum computation. The multipartite entanglement of continuous variables can be generated by distributing or combining squeezed states of light using linear optics. We experimentally obtained a tripartite entangled state of bright optical field by means of a nondegenerate optical parametric amplifier (NOPA) and optical beam-splitters. The NOPA is operated in the state of parametric deamplification by locking the relative phase between the pump laser and the injected seed wave to (2n+1)π, so the generated Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) beam for continuous variables is an entangled state of light with the quantum correlation of phase quadratures and the quantum anticorrelation of amplitude quadratures [1]. The output EPR beam consists of two frequency-degenerate optical modes with horizontal and vertical polarizations which are distributed to three parties with two linear beam-splitters. We have theoretically and experimentally demonstrated the three parties are in a tripartite entangled state with three-mode “position” (amplitude quadrature) correlation and relative “momentum” (phase quadrature) correlation [2]-[4]. The obtained GHZ-like state is a fully inseparable tripartite continuous-variables state violating the three inequalities used for the criterion of the inseparability [5][6]. The controlled dense coding quantum communication is experimentally accomplished by exploiting the tripartite entanglement. The three entangled modes are sent to a sender (Alice), a receiver (Bob) and a controller (Claire), respectively. The information transmission capacity of the quantum channel between Alice and Bob is controlled by Claire. The channel capacity completed under Claire’s help is always larger than that without her help.

General Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen-type entanglement of continuous variables for bosons

Nian-Quan Jiang, Yi-Zhuang Zheng

We show that general Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen-type (EPR-type) entanglement of continuous variables with arbitrary eigenvalues for bosons can be yielded. For bosons of nonzero resting mass EPR-type entangled state can be achieved by the use of atomic beam splitters in particles of a position eigenstate and $n\ensuremath{-}1$ momentum eigenstates. For light field in which resting mass of the photon is zero, approximate EPR-type entanglement can be experimentally generated when we apply optical beam splitters to one position-squeezed coherence state and $n\ensuremath{-}1$ momentum-squeezed coherence states, this approximate version tends to perfect EPR entanglement in the limit of infinite squeezing.

Squeezing and Entanglement in Continuous Variable Systems

夏云杰, 郭光灿

Based on total variance of a pair of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) type operators, the generalized EPR entangled states in continuous variable systems are defined. We show that such entangled states must correspond to two-mode squeezing states whether these states are Gaussian or not and whether they are pure or not. With help of the relation between the total variance and the entanglement, the degree of such entangIement is also defined. Through analysing some specific cases, we see that this method is very convenient and easy in practical applications. In addition, an entangled state with no squeezing is studied, which reveals that there certainly exists something unknown about entanglement in continuous variable systems.
