Abstract

We study the quantum phase transitions in a two component Bose mixture in a one-dimensional optical lattice. The calculations have been performed in the framework of the extended Bose-Hubbard model using the finite size density matrix renormalization group method. We obtain different phase transitions for the system for integer filling. When the interspecies on-site and the nearest-neighbor interactions are larger than the intraspecies on-site and also the nearest-neighbor interaction, the system exhibits a phase separated charge-density-wave order that is characterized by the two species being spatially separated and existing in the density-wave phases.

Phase separation in a two-species Bose mixture

Tapan Mishra, Ramesh V. Pai, Bhanu Pratap Das

We obtain the ground-state quantum phase diagram for a two-species Bose mixture in a one-dimensional optical lattice using the finite-size density-matrix renormalization group method. We discuss our results for different combinations of inter- and intraspecies interaction strengths with commensurate and incommensurate fillings of the bosons. The phases we have obtained are a superfluid and a Mott insulator, and a phase separation where the two different species reside in spatially separate regions. The spatially separated phase is further classified into phase-separated superfluid and Mott insulator. The phase separation appears for all the fillings we have considered, whenever the interspecies interaction is slightly larger than the intraspecies interactions.

Supersolid and solitonic phases in the one-dimensional extended Bose-Hubbard model

Tapan Mishra, Ramesh V. Pai, S. Ramanan +2 more

We report our findings on the quantum phase transitions in cold bosonic atoms in a one-dimensional optical lattice using the finite-size density-matrix renormalization-group method in the framework of the extended Bose-Hubbard model. We consider wide ranges of values for the filling factors and the nearest-neighbor interactions. At commensurate fillings, we obtain two different types of charge-density wave phases and a Mott insulator phase. However, departure from commensurate fillings yields the exotic supersolid phase where both the crystalline and the superfluid orders coexist. In addition, we obtain the signatures for the solitary waves and the superfluid phase.

One-dimensional Bose-Hubbard model with nearest-neighbor interaction

Till D. Kühner, Steven R. White, H. Monien

We study the one-dimensional Bose-Hubbard model using the density-matrix renormalization group. For the cases of on-site interactions and additional nearest-neighbor interactions the phase boundaries of the Mott insulators and charge-density wave phases are determined. We find a direct phase transition between the charge-density wave phase and the superfluid phase, and no supersolid or normal phases. In the presence of nearest-neighbor interaction the charge density wave phase is completely surrounded by a region in which the effective interactions in the superfluid phase are repulsive. In this region a single impurity causes the system to be insulating. An even bigger region of the superfluid phase is driven into a Bose-glass phase by any finite quenched disorder. We determine the boundaries of both regions in the phase diagram. The ac conductivity of the superfluid phase in the attractive and the repulsive region is calculated, and a big superfluid stiffness is found in the attractive as well as the repulsive region.

Segregated quantum phases of dipolar bosonic mixtures in two-dimensional optical lattices

Rukmani Bai, Deepak Gaur, Hrushikesh Sable +3 more

We identify the quantum phases in a binary mixture of dipolar bosons in two-dimensional optical lattices. Our study is motivated by the recent experimental realization of binary dipolar condensate mixtures of Er-Dy [Phys. Rev. Lett. 121, 213601 (2018)]. We model the system by using the extended two-species Bose-Hubbard model and calculate the ground-state phase diagrams by using mean-field theory. For selected cases we also obtain analytical phase boundaries by using the site-decoupled mean-field theory. For comparison we also examine the phase diagram of two-species Bose-Hubbard model. Our results show that the quantum phases with the long-range intraspecies interaction phase separate with no phase ordering. The introduction of the long-range interspecies interaction modifies the quantum phases of the system. It leads to the emergence of phase-separated quantum phases with phase ordering. The transition from the phase-separated quantum phases without phase ordering to phase ordered ones breaks the inversion symmetry.

Superfluid, phase-separation, supersolid and density wave phases in extended Bose-Hubbard model

Pallavi P. Gaude, Ananya Das, Ramesh V. Pai

We study the one-dimensional extended Bose-Hubbard model in incommensurate densities using the density matrix renormalization group with the mean-filed (CMFT+DMRG)and density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) methods. We focus on the region of the phase diagram where onsite interaction (U) is smaller than the nearest-neighbor interaction (V). We determine the superfluid and the density wave order parameters to identify superfluid, phase-separated, supersolid, density wave phases, and obtain the phase diagram in the density-onsite interaction(ρ, U) plane for fixed nearest-neighbor interaction. The supersolid and phase-separation phases exist for a wide range of densities. The density ranges for which the phase-separation is seen shrinking with theincrease in the onsite interaction.

Quantum Phase Analysis of Extended Bose-Hubbard Model

Manoranjan Kumar, Sujit Sarkar, S. Ramasesha

We have obtained the quantum phase diagram of one dimensional extended Bose-Hubbard model using the density-matrix renormalization group and Abelian bosonization methods for different commensurabilities. We describe the nature of different quantum phases at the charge degeneracy point. We find a direct phase transition from Mott insulating phase to superconducting phase for integer band fillings of bosons. We predict explicitly the presence of two kinds of repulsive Luttinger liquid phases, apart from the charge density wave and superconducting phases for half-integer band fillings. Our study reveals that extended range interactions are necessary to get the correct phase boundary of an one-dimensional interacting bosons system.
