Abstract

We experimentally observed a Hong-Ou-Mandle dip with photon pairs generated in a periodically poled reverse-proton-exchange lithium niobate waveguide with an integrated mode demultiplexer at a wavelength of 1.5 um. The visibility of the dip in the experiment was 80% without subtraction of any noise terms at a peak pump power of 4.4 mW. The new technology developed in the experiment can find various applications in the research field of linear optics quantum computation in fiber or quantum optical coherence tomography with near infrared photon pairs.

Hong−Ou−Mandel dip measurements of polarization-entangled photon pairs at 1550 nm

Yinghong Xue, Akio Yoshizawa, Hidemi Tsuchida

We performed a quantum interference experiment using two polarization-entangled photon pairs at 1550 nm, created in periodically poled lithium niobate waveguides. Using four-fold coincidences, a Hong-Ou-Mandel dip at diagonal polarization was observed with a visibility of 74.5% before subtracting accidental coincidences. This experiment lays a foundation for demonstrating polarization-based entanglement swapping and for realizing a quantum relay.

Correlated photon-pair generation in reverse-proton-exchange PPLN waveguides with integrated mode demultiplexer at 10 GHz clock

We report 10-ps correlated photon pair generation in periodically-poled reverse-proton-exchange lithium niobate waveguides with integrated mode demultiplexer at a wavelength of 1.5-mum and a clock of 10 GHz. Using superconducting single photon detectors, we observed a coincidence to accidental count ratio (CAR) as high as 4000. The developed photon-pair source may find broad application in quantum information systems as well as quantum entanglement experiments.

Photon-bunching measurement after two 25−km -long optical fibers

M. Halder, Sébastien Tanzilli, Hugues de Riedmatten +3 more

To show the feasibility of a long-distance partial Bell-state measurement, a Hong-Ou-Mandel experiment with coherent photons is reported. Pairs of degenerate photons at telecommunication wavelength are created by parametric down-conversion in a periodically poled lithium niobate waveguide. The photon pairs are separated in a beam splitter and transmitted via two fibers of $25\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{km}$. The wave packets are relatively delayed and recombined on a second beam splitter, forming a large Mach-Zehnder interferometer. Coincidence counts between the photons at the two output modes are registered. The main challenge consists in the trade-off between low count rates due to narrow filtering and length fluctuations of the $25\text{\ensuremath{-}}\mathrm{km}$-long arms during the measurement. For balanced paths a Hong-Ou-Mandel dip with a net visibility of 47.3% is observed, which is close to the maximal theoretical value of 50% developed here. This proves the practicability of a long-distance Bell-state measurement with two independent sources, as, e.g., required in an entanglement swapping configuration in the scale of tens of kilometers.
