Interaction-free measurement: Some interference

R. M. Angelo, Otávio Bueno, Adonai S. Sant’Anna

The polemical term interaction-free measurement (IFM) is analyzed in its interpretative nature. Two seminal works proposing the term are revisited and their underlying interpretations are assessed. The role played by nonlocal quantum correlations (entanglement) is formally discussed and some controversial conceptions in the original treatments are identified. As a result the term IFM is shown to be consistent neither with the standard interpretation of quantum mechanics nor with the lessons provided by the EPR debate.

Multiple Interaction-Free Measurement as a Challenge to the Transactional Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics

Avshalom C. Elitzur, Shahar Dolev

Cramer’s analysis of interaction‐free measurement in terms of his Transactional Interpretation is critically reviewed. Next we attempt to apply it to some varieties of IFM that have been devised during the last decade, pointing out the challenges posed by such attempt We then discuss the possible bearings of these experiments on the Transactional Interpretation as well as on the nature of spacetime.

Interaction-free generation of orbital angular momentum entanglement

Yuanyuan Chen, Dong Jiang, Xuemei Gu +2 more

Due to the infinite range of possibly achievable degrees of freedom, orbital angular momentum (OAM) can tremendously increase the capacity of communication system. Here, we propose a scheme to generate OAM entanglement by using interaction-free measurement (IFM). As the superposition state of the quantum absorption object is not changed after IFM, our scheme can be extended to multiparty easily. The numerical analysis results show that the fidelity of generated OAM entanglement can be arbitrarily close to unity. Besides, the implementation issues are also discussed to evaluate the feasibility in experiment. This OAM entanglement with multiple degrees of freedom will play a key role in distributed entanglement computing and efficient quantum communication.
