New results in the XXZ open spin chain

Pascal Baseilhac

Abstract

In this review, I describe a recent approach based on the representation theory of the $q-$Onsager algebra which is used to derive exact results for the XXZ open spin chain. The complete spectrum and eigenstates are obtained as rational functions of a single variable which discrete values correspond to the roots of a certain characteristic polynomial. Comments and open problems are also presented.

Exact spectrum of the XXZ open spin chain from theq-Onsager algebra representation theory

Pascal Baseilhac, Kozo Koizumi

The transfer matrix of the XXZ open spin-½ chain with general integrable boundary conditions and generic anisotropy parameter ( q is not a root of unity and | q | = 1) is diagonalized using the representation theory of the q -Onsager algebra. Similarly to the Ising and superintegrable chiral Potts models, the complete spectrum is expressed in terms of the roots of a characteristic polynomial of degree d = 2 N . The complete family of eigenstates are derived in terms of rational functions defined on a discrete support which satisfy a system of coupled recurrence relations. In the special case of linear relations between left and right boundary parameters for which Bethe-type solutions are known to exist, our analysis provides an alternative derivation of the results of Nepomechie et al and Cao et al . In the latter case the complete family of eigenvalues and eigenstates splits into two sets, each associated with a characteristic polynomial of degree d < 2 N . Numerical checks performed for small values of N support the analysis.

The complete spectrum and scalar products for the open spin-1/2 XXZ quantum chains with non-diagonal boundary terms

S Faldella, N Kitanine, Giuliano Niccoli

We use the quantum separation of variables (SOV) method to construct the eigenstates of the open XXZ chain with the most general boundary terms. The eigenstates for the inhomogeneous case are constructed in terms of solutions of a system of quadratic equations. This SOV representation permits us to compute scalar products and can be used to calculate form factors and correlation functions.

CORRELATION FUNCTIONS OF THE XXZ SPIN-½ HEISENBERG CHAIN: RECENT ADVANCES (REVIEW)

N Kitanine, Jean Michel Maillet, N. A. Slavnov +1 more

We review some recent advances in the computation of exact correlation functions of the XXZ-½ Heisenberg chain. We first give a general introduction to our method which is based on the algebraic Bethe ansatz and the resolution of the quantum inverse scattering problem, leading in particular to multiple integral representations for the correlation functions. Then we describe recently obtained compact formulas for the spin-spin correlation functions of the XXZ-½ Heisenberg chain. We outline how this leads to several explicit results including the known two point functions in the limit of free fermions, the so-called emptiness formation probability at anisotropy Δ=1/2 and its large distance asymptotic behaviour in the massless phase of the model.

Fourth-neighbour two-point functions of the XXZ chain and the fermionic basis approach

Frank Göhmann, Raphael Kleinemühl, Alexander Weiße

Abstract We give a descriptive review of the fermionic basis approach to the theory of correlation functions of the XXZ quantum spin chain. The emphasis is on explicit formulae for short-range correlation functions which will be presented in a way that allows for their direct implementation on a computer. Within the fermionic basis approach a huge class of stationary reduced density matrices, compatible with the integrable structure of the model, assumes a factorized form. This means that all expectation values of local operators and all two-point functions, in particular, can be represented as multivariate polynomials in only two functions ρ and ω and their derivatives with coefficients that are rational in the deformation parameter q of the model. These coefficients are of ‘algebraic origin’. They do not depend on the choice of the density matrix, which only impacts the form of ρ and ω . As an example we work out in detail the case of the grand canonical ensemble at temperature T and magnetic field h for q in the critical regime. We compare our exact results for the fourth-neighbour two-point functions with asymptotic formulae for h , T = 0 and for finite h and T .

AQ-operator for the quantum transfer matrix

Christian Korff

Baxter's Q-operator for the quantum transfer matrix of the XXZ spin-chain is constructed employing the representation theory of quantum groups. The spectrum of this Q-operator is discussed and novel functional relations which describe the finite temperature regime of the XXZ spin-chain are derived. For non-vanishing magnetic field the previously known Bethe ansatz equations can be replaced by a system of quadratic equations which is an important advantage for numerical studies. For vanishing magnetic field and rational coupling values it is argued that the quantum transfer matrix exhibits a loop algebra symmetry closely related to the one of the classical six-vertex transfer matrix at roots of unity.
