A Construction of Quantum Stabilizer Codes Based on Syndrome Assignment by Classical Parity-Check Matrices

Abstract

In this paper, a new but simple construction of stabilizer codes and related entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes is proposed based on syndrome assignment by classical parity-check matrices. This method turns the construction of quantum stabilizer codes to the construction of classical parity-check matrices satisfying a specific commutative condition. The designed minimum distance 2t*+1 of the constructed quantum stabilizer codes can be achieved by a commutative classical parity-check matrix with classical minimum distance 4t*-m, where the parameterm, 0 ≤m≤ 2t*, depends on a property of the parity-check matrix. Asmdecreases, there is an increasing set of additional correctable error operators beyond the designed error correcting capability t*. The (asymptotic) coding efficiency is at least comparable to that of CSS codes. A class of quantum Reed-Muller codes is constructed and codes in this class have a larger set of correctable error operators than that of the quantum Reed-Muller codes previously developed in the literature. Quantum circulant codes are also constructed and many of them are optimal in terms of their coding parameters.

On Construction of Two Classes of Efficient Quantum Error-Correction Codes

Peiyu Tan, Jing Li

Stabilizer codes are an important branch of quantum codes, but the existing stabilizer codes constructed from the classical binary codes almost exclusively belong to the special subclass of CSS codes. This paper develops simple and systematic constructions for two rich classes of non-CSS quantum stabilizer codes: quantum low density parity check (LDPC) codes based on classical quasi-cyclic LDPC codes and quantum convolutional codes based on classical LDPC-convolutional codes. Both classes enjoy a wide range of lengths and rates, and offer stronger error correction capability than the existing codes.

A novel construction for quantum stabilizer codes based on binary formalism

Duc Manh Nguyen, Sunghwan Kim

In this research, we propose a novel construction of quantum stabilizer code based on a binary formalism. First, from any binary vector of even length, we generate the parity-check matrix of the quantum code from a set composed of elements from this vector and its relations by shifts via subtraction and addition. We prove that the proposed matrices satisfy the condition constraint for the construction of quantum codes. Finally, we consider some constraint vectors which give us quantum stabilizer codes with various dimensions and a large minimum distance with code length from six to twelve digits.

New Constructions of Quantum Stabilizer Codes Based on Difference Sets

Duc Manh Nguyen, Sunghwan Kim

In this paper, new conditions on parameters in difference sets are derived to satisfy symplectic inner product, and new constructions of quantum stabilizer codes are proposed from the conditions. The conversion of the difference sets into parity-check matrices is first explained. Then, the proposed code construction is composed of three steps, which are to choose the generators of quantum stabilizer code, to determine the quantum stabilizer groups, and to determine subspace codewords with large minimum distance. The quantum stabilizer codes with various length are also presented to explain the practicality of the code construction. The proposed design can be applied to quantum stabilizer code construction based on combinatorial design.

Quasi-cyclic low-density parity-check stabilizer codes

Feng Shi, Zhiyuan Yan

Quantum error correction codes are needed to protect quantum systems from interference. An important family of quantum error correction codes are stabilizer codes. Many stabilizer codes in the literature belong to a subclass of stabilizer codes, referred to as CSS codes since they are based on the so-called CSS formalism. CSS codes have received significant attention because the dual-containing condition for the CSS formalism is relatively straightforward to satisfy and also because it is easy to produce CSS codes from classical error correction codes. However, some stabilizer codes in the literature show superior error correction performance than existing CSS codes, and are based on binary low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. Since it has been shown that CSS codes based on nonbinary LDPC codes have good performance over quantum qubit channels, in this paper we investigate stabilizer codes based on nonbinary LDPC codes. In particular, we propose constructions of stabilizer codes based on nonbinary quasi-cyclic low-density parity-check (QC-LDPC) codes for qubit channels. The simulation results show that our QC-LDPC stabilizer codes decoded by a nonbinary sum-product algorithm have better performance than their binary counterparts.

Construction and complement circuit of a quantum stabilizer code with length 7

Duc Manh Nguyen, Sunghwan Kim

In this paper, a new method for the construction of a quantum stabilizer code from circulant permutation matrices is discussed. First, we choose a finite-length vector randomly, and we can construct circulant permutation matrices from the vectors. Then, the parity-check matrix can be produce from the circulant permutation matrices. Hence, the generators of stabilizer code are determined according to the parity-check matrix and quantum stabilizer group are defined from the generators. From the stabilizer group, codewords of the proposed quantum codes can also be generated. Finally, a complete efficient encoding and decoding quantum circuit of [[7,1,3]] is proposed. [[7,1,3]] is stabilizer code that construction based on our method is an seven-qubit code that protects a one-qubit state with up to one error, which is very important for quantum information processing.

Error correction and decoding for quantum stabilizer codes

Xiao Fang-ying, Hanwu Chen

Mapping the error syndromes to error operators is the core of quantum decoding network and the key step to realize quantum error correction. The definitions of the bit flip error syndrome matrix and the phase flip error syndrome matrix are presented, and then the error syndromes of Pauli errors are expressed in terms of the columns of the bit flip error syndrome matrix and the phase flip error syndrome matrix. It is also shown that the error syndrome matrix of a stabilizer code is determined by its check matrix, which is similar to the relationship between the classical error and the parity check matrix of classical codes. So, the techniques of error detection and error correction for classical linear codes can be applied to quantum stabilizer codes after some modifications. The error correction circuits are constructed based on the relationship between the error operator and error syndrom. The decoding circuit is constructed by reversing the encoding circuit because the encoding operators are unitary.
