Perfect state transfer over distance-regular spin networks

Abstract

Christandl et al. have noted that the $d$-dimensional hypercube can be projected to a linear chain with $d+1$ sites so that, by considering fixed but different couplings between the qubits assigned to the sites, the perfect state transfer (PST) can be achieved over arbitrarily long distances in the chain [Phys. Rev. Lett. 92, 187902 (2004); Phys. Rev. A 71, 032312 (2005)]. In this work we consider distance-regular graphs as spin networks and note that any such network (not just the hypercube) can be projected to a linear chain and so can allow PST over long distances. We consider some particular spin Hamiltonians which are the extended version of those of Christandl et al. Then, by using techniques such as stratification of distance-regular graphs and spectral analysis methods, we give a procedure for finding a set of coupling constants in the Hamiltonians so that a particular state initially encoded on one site will evolve freely to the opposite site without any dynamical control, i.e., we show how to derive the parameters of the system so that PST can be achieved. It is seen that PST is only allowed in distance-regular spin networks for which, starting from an arbitrary vertex as reference vertex (prepared in the initial state which we wish to transfer), the last stratum of the networks with respect to the reference state contains only one vertex; i.e., stratification of these networks plays an important role which determines in which kinds of networks and between which vertices of them, PST can be allowed. As examples, the cycle network with even number of vertices and $d$-dimensional hypercube are considered in details and the method is applied for some important distance-regular networks.

Optimal transfer of ad-level quantum state over pseudo-distance-regular networks

Following the prescription of Ref. \cite{PST} in which perfect state transference (PST) of a qubit over distance regular spin networks was discussed, in this paper PST of an arbitrary $d$-level quantum state (qudit) over antipodes of more general networks called pseudo distance-regular networks, is investigated. In fact, the spectral analysis techniques used in the previous work \cite{PST}, and algebraic structures of pseudo distance-regular graphs are employed to give an explicit formula for suitable coupling constants in the Hamiltonians so that the state of a particular qudit initially encoded on one site will evolve freely to the opposite site without any dynamical control, i.e., we show that how to derive the parameters of the system so that PST can be achieved. Perfect transfer of arbitrary states in quantum spin networks

Matthias Christandl, Nilanjana Datta, T. C. Dorlas +3 more

We propose a class of qubit networks that admit perfect state transfer of any two-dimensional quantum state in a fixed period of time. We further show that such networks can distribute arbitrary entangled states between two distant parties, and can, by using such systems in parallel, transmit the higher-dimensional systems states across the network. Unlike many other schemes for quantum computation and communication, these networks do not require qubit couplings to be switched on and off. When restricted to $N$-qubit spin networks of identical qubit couplings, we show that $2\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}{\mathrm{log}}_{3}N$ is the maximal perfect communication distance for hypercube geometries. Moreover, if one allows fixed but different couplings between the qubits then perfect state transfer can be achieved over arbitrarily long distances in a linear chain. This paper expands and extends the work done by Christandl et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 92, 187902 (2004).

Perfect $(s,r)$-state transfer

Stephen Kirkland, Hermie Monterde, Sarah Plosker

Much work has been done in the last two decades on the topic of quantum state transfer in a quantum spin network. One can model such a system of interacting qubits using an undirected graph, and studying vertex-to-vertex dynamics. This setup has recently been relaxed to allow for dynamics between linear combinations of two vertex states, i.e.\ from $\mathbf u = \mathbf e_a + s \mathbf e_b$ to $\mathbf μ=\mathbf e_α + r \mathbf e_β$, where $r=s$ is either $-1$ (which corresponds to pair state transfer) or $+1$ (which corresponds to plus state transfer), or more recently $r=s$ is taken to be any real number (which corresponds to $s$-pair state transfer). Here, we broaden the investigation of $s$-pair state transfer to \textit{perfect $(s,r)$-state transfer}, which is perfect state transfer from $\mathbf u = \mathbf e_a + s \mathbf e_b$ to $\mathbf μ=\mathbf e_α + r \mathbf e_β$ (up to some dilation) where $r,s\in \mathbb C$. We identify infinite families of graphs with perfect $(s,r)$-state transfer and provide characterizations of cases when $|r|= |s|$ and when $|r|\neq |s|$, showing situations when the degree of entanglement between vertex states is preserved, and when it is not preserved. The latter is particularly important as it represents perfect state transfer from an entangled pair of qubits to another one where the degree of entanglement need not be the same\mdash in fact, it can be set up so as to ``boost'' (increase) entanglement. We provide an algorithm that finds the vector with two nonzero entries that maximizes the fidelity of transfer for a fixed time $t$ starting from a given $s$-pair state $\mathbf u$. Finally, we provide a sensitivity analysis, with respect to readout time errors, of perfect $(s,r)$-state transfer.

Perfect transfer of m-qubit GHZ states

M. A. Jafarizadeh, Rahime Sufiani, Seyed Farid Taghavi +1 more

By using some techniques such as spectral distribution and stratification associated with the graphs, employed in [1,2] for the purpose of Perfect state transfer (PST) of a single qubit over antipodes of distance-regular spin networks and PST of a $d$-level quantum state over antipodes of pseudo-distance regular networks, PST of an m-qubit GHZ state is investigated. To do so, we employ the particular distance-regular networks (called Johnson networks) J(2m,m) to transfer an m-qubit GHZ state initially prepared in an arbitrary node of the network (called the reference node) to the corresponding antipode, perfectly. Symmetric perfect state transfer on bipartite graphs

Xi Li, Xiao Chen, Shouwei Hu +1 more

Abstract Continuous-time quantum walks (CTQW) becoming more significant for quantum information and quantum computation. The perfect state transfer (PST) on graphs is a specific phenomena of CTQW which is widely used in quantum communication of small system, and be found critical for quantum algorithm design recently, such as quantum approximate optimization algorithms and quantum search. If a network $G$ contains $2N$ vertices, and PST occurs between $N$ pairs of vertices at the same time $T$, then we say $G$ admits symmetric PST (SPST). In this work, we will study the SPST on bipartite graphs via spectra. And then, we will present how to set couplings of special bipartite graphs such as cycles, grids and chains to admit SPST is given. For cycles with 6, 8, 10, 12 vertices, we give the analytical method to obtain the couplings to admit SPST. Analogously, the couplings for chains and grids to admit SPST are analytical obtained. We also present a typical approach by using the graph tensor product to construct new quantum networks that admit SPST, in which the new quantum networks are derived from special kinds of integral graphs, such as complete graphs, strongly regular graphs and distance regular graphs.
