Abstract

We investigate the ground state of the one-dimensional fermionic system enclosed in a hard-wall trap with attractive contact $p$-wave interactions. Based on the Bethe ansatz method, the explicit wave function is derived by numerically solving the Bethe ansatz equations for the full physical regimes $(\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\infty}\ensuremath{\le}{c}_{F}\ensuremath{\le}0)$. With the exact wave function some quantities which are important in many-body physics are obtained, including the one-body density matrix and the momentum distribution of the ground state for finite system. It is shown that the shell structure of the density profiles disappears with the increase of the interaction and in the fermionic Tonks-Girardeau limit the density distribution shows the same behavior as that of an ideal Bose gas. However, the one-body density matrix and the momentum distribution exhibit completely different structures compared with their bosonic counterparts.

Ground-state properties of one-dimensional ultracold Bose gases in a hard-wall trap

Yajiang Hao, Yunbo Zhang, J.-Q. Liang +1 more

We investigate the ground state of the system of $N$ bosons enclosed in a hard-wall trap interacting via a repulsive or attractive $\ensuremath{\delta}$-function potential. Based on the Bethe ansatz method, the explicit ground state wave function is derived and the corresponding Bethe ansatz equations are solved numerically for the full physical regime from the Tonks limit to the strongly attractive limit. It is shown that the solution takes a different form in different regime. We also evaluate the one body density matrix and second-order correlation function of the ground state for finite systems. In the Tonks limit the density profiles display the Fermi-like behavior, while in the strongly attractive limit the Bosons form a bound state of $N$ atoms corresponding to the $N$-string solution. The density profiles show the continuous crossover behavior in the entire regime. Further, the correlation function indicates that the Bose atoms bunch closer as the interaction constant decreases.

Lowest scattering state of one-dimensional Bose gases with attractive interactions

Yajiang Hao, Hongli Guo, Yunbo Zhang +1 more

We investigate the lowest scattering state of a one-dimensional Bose gas with attractive interactions trapped in a hard-wall trap. By solving the Bethe ansatz equation numerically, we determine the full energy spectrum and the exact wave function for different attractive interaction parameters. The resultant density distribution, momentum distribution, reduced one-body density matrix, and two-body correlation show that a decreased attractive interaction induces rich density profiles and specific correlation properties in the weakly attractive Bose gas.

Momentum distribution and contacts of one-dimensional spinless Fermi gases with an attractive p -wave interaction

Xiangguo Yin, Xi‐Wen Guan, Yunbo Zhang +2 more

We present a rigorous study of momentum distribution and $p$-wave contacts of one-dimensional spinless Fermi gases with an attractive $p$-wave interaction. Using the Bethe ansatz wave function, we calculate analytically the high-momentum tail and show that the leading ($\ensuremath{\sim}1/{p}^{2}$) and sub-leading terms ($\ensuremath{\sim}1/{p}^{4}$) are determined by two contacts ${C}_{2}$ and ${C}_{4}$, which are related to the short-distance behavior of the two-body density matrix and its derivatives. As one increases the one-dimensional scattering length, the contact ${C}_{2}$ increases monotonically from zero while ${C}_{4}$ exhibits a peak at finite scattering length. In addition, we obtain analytic expressions for $p$-wave contacts at finite temperature from the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz equations for both weak and strong attractive interactions.

Tonks-Girardeau gas, super-Tonks-Girardeau gas, and bound states of one-dimensional bosons in a hard-wall trap

Hua Li, Liu, Taifeng, Yaojiang Hao +1 more

We investigate the Bose gas with repulsive or attractive interactions between atoms in the scheme of Bethe Ansatz equation in a hard wall trap. Three typical quantum phases in the current research of 1D interacting cold atoms are clarified in terms of the energy spectrum, single particle density distribution and two-particle correlation function. We identify two matching points in the phase diagram, i.e. the TG and STG gas show the same profiles at the strongly interacting point $-1/γ=0$, and in the weakly interacting limit $γ=0$ the ground states TG and BS join to each other smoothly.

Fermionization of a strongly interacting Bose-Fermi mixture in a one-dimensional harmonic trap

Bess Fang, Patrizia Vignolo, Christian Miniatura +1 more

We consider a strongly interacting one-dimensional (1D) Bose-Fermi mixture confined in a harmonic trap. It consists of a Tonks-Girardeau (TG) gas (1D Bose gas with repulsive hard-core interactions) and of a noninteracting Fermi gas (1D spin-aligned Fermi gas), both species interacting through hard-core repulsive interactions. Using a generalized Bose-Fermi mapping, we determine the one-body density matrices, exact particle density profiles, momentum distributions, and behavior of the mixture under 1D expansion when opening the trap. In real space, bosons and fermions do not display any phase separation: the respective density profiles extend over the same region and they both present a number of peaks equal to the total number of particles in the trap. In momentum space the bosonic component has the typical narrow TG profile, while the fermionic component shows a broad distribution with fermionic oscillations at small momenta. Due to the large boson-fermion repulsive interactions, both the bosonic and the fermionic momentum distributions decay as $C{p}^{\ensuremath{-}4}$ at large momenta, like in the case of a pure bosonic TG gas. The coefficient $C$ is related to the two-body density matrix and to the bosonic concentration in the mixture. When opening the trap, both momentum distributions ``fermionize'' under expansion and turn into that of a Fermi gas with a particle number equal to the total number of particles in the mixture.

Ground-state energy, density profiles, and momentum distribution of attractively interacting 1D Fermi gases with hard-wall boundaries: a Monte Carlo study

Shill,, Drut,, Porter Porter +1 more

Motivated by the realization of hard-wall boundary conditions in experiments with ultracold atoms, we investigate the ground-state properties of spin-1/2 fermions with attractive interactions in a one-dimensional box.We use lattice Monte Carlo methods to determine essential quantities like the energy, which we compute as a function of coupling strength and particle number in the regime from few to many particles.Many-fermion systems bound by hard walls display non-trivial density profiles characterized by so-called Friedel oscillations (which are similar to those observed in harmonic traps). In non-interacting systems, the characteristic length scale of the oscillations is set by (2k F ) -1 , where k F is the Fermi momentum, while repulsive interactions tend to generate Wignercrystal oscillations of period (4k F ) -1 .Based on the non-interacting result, we find a remarkably simple parametrization of the density profiles of the attractively interacting case, which we generalize to the one-body density matrix. While the total momentum is not a conserved quantity in the presence of hard walls, the magnitude of the momentum does provide a good quantum number. We are therefore able to provide a detailed characterization of the (quasi-)momentum distribution, which displays rather robust discontinuity at the Fermi surface. In addition, we determine the spatially varying on-site density-density correlation, which in turn yields Tan's contact density and, upon integration, Tan's contact. As is well known, the latter fully determines the short-range correlations and plays a crucial role in a multitude of equilibrium and non-equilibrium sum rules.
